As of 2023 the Redcliffe Festival of Sails is no longer. Will it return? We don’t know but rest assured, if the Redcliffe Festival of Sails is held again, we will let you know.
If you are keen to get the family outside and entertained this Easter then a trip to the seaside suburb of Redcliffe could be just what you need. Home to its annual Festival of Sails, this year’s Good Friday schedule boasts not only a front row seat to one of our country’s biggest yacht races but also a treasure trove of Easter goodness and seaside entertainment as well.
Redcliffe Festival of Sails: What is it all about?
Each year, thousands of people line the shores of popular Suttons Beach for the annual Redcliffe Festival of Sails. Coinciding with the Easter long weekend, seaside enthusiasts come in force, not only because the beach offers the best waterfront seats for Australia’s second largest boat race, the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race, but for all the other forms of fun entertainment the festival has to offer as well. A celebration of music, food, the Easter bunny and waterside fun – the Festival may be named for the race but that is really only just where the party starts.
The Kids Zone
Catering for the whole family, the festival will have a dedicated Kids Zone complete with free craft workshops, farm animals and a range of fun rides.
Another popular drawcard is sure to be the Pop Up Ice Cream Fair, the perfect place to check out while at the beach on a sunny day where mountains of cool delights will no doubt await you.
The Beach Zone
As the main backdrop for the Festival, beautiful Suttons beach will come alive with not only the offshore yachts and sailboats but the onshore activities and excitement as well. With all day Beach Volleyball games on, families will be able to jump in anytime to have a go – and best of all its all FREE! You can also marvel at the professional Sand Sculptor as he creates visual masterpieces on the day before having a turn at building your own wonderful creation as well.
Easter Themed Activities
Since it takes place on Good Friday, Festival of Sails has plenty of fun Easter themed activities to participate in. Kids will love the Easter egg hunt which occurs on the beach, there is also a surprise visit by the Easter Bunny who sometimes makes a spectacular entrance by parachuting onto the beach! Take advantage of face painting, amusement rides and kids workshops too – before you’ve eaten too much chocolate!
The Festival Entertainment
No festival would be complete without the sweet sounds of music and some lively stage performances. This year the Festival of Sails promises not to disappoint with not one, not two but three stages set up for crowds. Make sure you check out the festival’s program for the Main Stage, Southern Acoustics and Northern Acoustics stages before you come through so that you can be sure to catch the acts and artists you love the most. And, of course, make sure you’re near the main stage at 10am to see the Easter Bunny himself drop from the sky with his load of chocolate gifts for the kids.
The Markets
Finally, but for so many most importantly, for all the lovers of handmade goodies, eclectic treasures, arts and crafts and food stalls galore there will be the delightful boutique-style market with beautiful handmade products as well as the hundreds of other markets stalls that set up and line the shores each year.
