Animal encounters
Animal encounters in Brisbane is a category that is much more than just reviews about Brisbane zoos. It is all about all the animals you can see in and around Brisbane from the everyday Aussie Kangaroo to the very odd but cool boa constrictor. It is about birds in the trees, dolphins in the oceans and bugs in our gardens. It is about the butterflies that make their way past our city on their migration to the bees that pollinate our plants.
Wildlife is such an important part of Australia, Queensland and Brisbane, and we are going to fill this resource with everything you could need to spend your days with your Brisbane Kids uncovering every living creature that lives in South East Queensland.

Brisbane Zoos and why they matter
Sometimes we get asked - why do you promote zoos? Surely animals deserve to be free. We say this... We urge all Brisbane families and anyone visiting Brisbane to look at all the great work being done by every single wildlife sanctuary, zoo and marine park in our state. Wildlife care, rescues, rehabilitation, protection of species, and participation in international breeding programs and the commitment to animal conservation and education are extreme in their focus. Brisbane Kids believes in the protection of wildlife and the environment and, in addition to supporting the places that help our wildlife we actively advocate for the protection of the last remaining wild spaces in Brisbane. When you go to any place with wildlife, encourage your children to respect their space and help them understand the importance of these animal's place in the world. We have included the "Wild State Gallery" in this collection, which is an exhibition at the Queensland Museum that demonstrates the remarkable biodiversity which defines us as a state in Australia.
