There is no denying Disney is super popular among families young and old, with many loveable characters to have graced our screens over the years. In 2023, Disney on Ice presents 100 Years of Wonder, which celebrates some of Disney’s most famous stories and characters bringing them to life on the ice rink.
Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Wonder
When Tinker Bell is captured by Captain Hook and his pirates, it is up to Benji and Isabella to help set her free, with the help of various Disney characters and the audience of course.
Audience participation is high throughout the performance with the crowd invited to call out, sing, dance and snap selfies in order to fill the ‘magic meter’ and in order to free Tinker Bell.
Guests will be taken on an exciting journey through several Disney worlds including those from Coco, Moana, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Toy Story and Frozen.
Each new scene is introduced subtly, prompting the crowd to try and guess which story will be presented next. Then, once the music starts it is all systems go. There is plenty of action as the performers, in fabulous costumes, whizz around the rink and fly through the sky, while songs that will be familiar to many fill the air.
Not only will you bear witness to the world-class talent displayed by the ice skaters, but you will also marvel at the amazing acrobatics and stunts, both on the ground and in the air (we may have held our breath a few times during the aerial stunts!)
Who Will Enjoy Disney on Ice?
Whether you are a long-time Disney fan or someone who is just discovering the magic of Disney, Disney on Ice will be sure to entertain and excite all who attend.
The children will enjoy the crowd interaction and Disney super-fans will no doubt know all the words, to all the songs and be happy singing and dancing throughout the performance.
Children, teenagers, adults and even grandparents will enjoy Disney on Ice (even if the cool teenagers won’t admit it). There is no mistaking the talent on display from the performers and the effort that goes into bringing Disney to life on the ice.
Disney on Ice – Is It Worth It?
Brisbane and other capital cities are fortunate to be host to many shows and concerts throughout the year, and as such families need to be mindful about which performances to attend. If you are wondering whether Disney on Ice is worth attending, I would whole heartedly say yes!
Disney on Ice is a wonderful family-friendly show, which is appropriate for all-ages. There is superb ice skating, marvellous music, spectacular choreography and brilliant costumes which creates a magnificent atmosphere while celebrating the magic of Disney.
At Brisbane Kids we love the idea of gifting experiences. Attending a show such as Disney on Ice will be etched in the memory of all who attend and the best bit is – no clutter! Tickets are reasonably priced given the length of the show and the quality of the performance, making it a brilliant event for families and friends to attend or a wonderful experience to gift to someone special.
If you are planning on attending with younger children, consider the timing of shows. The performance lasts for approximately two hours, making evening shows a very late night for tired little guests. Morning and afternoon shows may be more suitable for these age-groups.
What We Thought of Disney on Ice
Our family, which includes an 8- and 10-year-old, were excited to attend our very first Disney on Ice. While we are not massive Disney fans, and haven’t seen many of the movies, we were keen to see what all the hype was about.
From the moment the lights dimmed and the performers zoomed onto the ice rink, we were well and truly engrossed in the performance. Miss 8 didn’t take her eyes off the performers and really enjoyed seeing the talented skaters manoeuvre their way around the rink. It ignited her interest for ice skating and we now are making plans to test out our own skating skills.
Mr 10 was a little less enthusiastic, though afterwards on the car ride home, admitted to enjoying the show and commented on who good the skaters were.
As parents, we both appreciated the effort that went into the costumes (our faves were the Little Mermaid). We were absolutely amazed, and slightly terrified, at the skill displayed by the artists who were floating, spinning and gliding through the air and regularly gasped and held our breath. We need not have worried though, the talented performers didn’t put a foot wrong.
We all agreed that Hamm from Toy Story was the cutest character on stage, while the colourful costumes from Little Mermaid where simply stunning. It was very clever how the various sea creatures were portrayed.
