Jurassic World by Brickman® (Review)

If you mention the word dinosaur, the faces of kids all around the world light up. If you mention dinosaurs AND LEGO^® the excitement is out of this world.

At Jurassic World by Brickman dinosaurs and LEGO collide to create a detailed and truly amazing display of creatures, characters and moments from the popular Jurassic World franchise.

From the moment you arrive you will be wowed by the sheer scale and detail of the LEGO builds. Using over six million LEGO bricks (that’s is a lot of bricks), more than 50 large-scale dinosaurs, scenes and props are on display and waiting for dino (and LEGO) fans.

As you move through the various areas, each space focuses on a particular theme or activity from exploring the Isla Nublar, getting busy in the Lab, seeing the cute baby dinos in the petting zoo and even watching footage on how the exhibition came to life.

Hands-On Activities **at Jurassic World by Brickman**

There is no shortage of hands-on activities at Jurassic World by Brickman. In fact, building, creating and touching (where permitted) is strongly encouraged.

In The Lab guests can head to a building station where they are required to build a specific 6×6 plate. Once completed this mini build will be strategically placed on the wall to eventually create a mosaic – I wonder what it will be?

There is also the opportunity to:

Build and display your own DUPLO baby dinosaur
Create your own island or add to someone else’s
Build and display your own hybrid dinosaur creation
Race against the clock (and your family and friends) to create a dinosaur footprint
Build and race your very own escape vehicle.

**Photo Opportunities at Jurassic World by Brickman**

Make sure you bring your phone or camera to take lots of photos throughout the exhibition. The dinosaurs are very photogenic!

There are three photo opportunities in particular which are fun and destined to be a hit with the kids:

standing at the entrance gates of Jurassic Park
sitting in the Jeep with a massive T-rex in hot pursuit
posing with dinosaurs Blue and Delta among the foliage.

There is even handy signage on the floor, so you know where to stand for the best photo.

FUN FACT: When Brickman was building part of the T-rex’s mouth (with his head actually in the mouth) he bumped his head on one of the dino’s sharp teeth and required SIX stitches!)

Hidden Elements **at Jurassic World by Brickman**

The beauty of anything Brickman creates is the attention to detail. Storytelling elements and hidden gems have been cleverly incorporated within the builds to enhance the visitor’s experience. As you move through the exhibition, take your time, looking at all facets of the builds.

Like most Brickman exhibitions, Jurassic World by Brickman has an added ‘hidden’ element to discover.

Visitors are invited to find the Claire and Owen mini figures who are ‘lost’ within the exhibition. How many can you find? Submit your answer by scanning the QR code at the exhibition, for your chance to win.

HINT: You need to look quite high to find several of them.

Star Wars fans – apparently there is an Ewok hidden in one of the builds in the first room – can you find it? We searched for ages and still couldn’t locate it.

Jurassic World by Brickman is the largest exhibition the Brickman team have ever created, taking over two years and 10,000 build hours to create.

**What We Thought of Jurassic World by Brickman**

Miss 9 found the baby dinosaurs in the petting zoo adorable, but also loved hopping in the Jeep and posing for a photo.

Mr 10 loved anything that required you to get your hands among the bricks. He particularly enjoyed trying to beat the clock (and his father) building dinosaur footprints, which he then proudly placed on the display wall.

Us adults were enthralled reading the stats on each build and could have spent hours looking at the intricate details of what was on display. We may have also got rather competitive trying to locate the Claire and Owen mini figures around the exhibit!

Overall, our LEGO loving family thoroughly enjoyed this latest exhibition from Brickman. The skill on display was phenomenal. Make sure you take the time to watch the time lapse and video on how the exhibition was built. It is fascinating to see what is involved by so many people in putting this amazing LEGO exhibition together.

Things to Consider

Entry to the Queensland Museum is free, though you must have a paid ticket to enter the Brickman exhibition.
A lot of time and effort has gone into building the LEGO masterpieces, so be respectful and obey the signs.
There is no eating or drinking allowed in the exhibit, so make sure your children have had something to eat before you head in.
The exhibition area is broken up into separate areas, making visibility a bit tricky, so keep a close eye on your children at all times.
There are little steps available for smaller children, to help them get some extra height, but they must be returned to the step area when finished with.
Hand sanitiser is located throughout the exhibition for all to use, but as always, if you are unwell, please stay home.

Accessibility

Queensland Museum welcomes all visitors. Jurassic World by Brickman can be found on Level 3, though there is a lift, escalators, and stairs available. Displays are spaced out, with ample room to manoeuvre wheelchairs, if required.

Accessible toilets and a family room are located on Level 0 and Level 2.

Queensland Museum recognises the Queensland Government’s Companion Card program.

Want More Dinosaurs?

While visiting Jurassic World by Brickman at the museum, make sure you head down to Level 2 and explore dinosaurs further at the permanent and free exhibition, Dinosaurs Unearthed. You can then duck outside to the Dinosaur Garden to marvel at the massive, life-sized T-rex and Triceratops.

Tickets start at just $19.90 (child 3-12 years) or $84 for a family ticket (2 adults + 2 kids). Tickets can be purchased online at Queensland Museum.
