  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Thornlands Community Park in Thornlands

Last Updated: March 25, 2024
Thornlands Community Park

Thornlands Community Park is like a mini fenced-in adventure-land.  With a huge netted climbing structure, giant slides, quaint little cubby, water play, dinosaur dig and nature play area being just a few of its highlights – it is not hard to see why this park in Thornlands is such a huge hit for Brisbane families.

Please note this park is temporarily closed due to a fire and is currently being repaired. We will let you know once we hear it has  reopened.

Thornlands Community Park Playground

Its hard to pick which is the key feature for this park as each area seems as popular and fun as the last.  One thing is for sure, this park caters for all ages and skill levels, has considered all interests and types and is somewhere you could easily spend a whole day at, if you wanted.

As you enter the generous carpark you will find a wide, open spaced oval to your left which is perfect for a family picnic or for children to kick a soccer ball or fly a kite on.  On the opposite side of the oval is a shaded fitness area and covered seating and bbq areas.  The main fun though happens within the black gates, with the entrance being right beside the toilet block.

Inside you will find a huge, three-towered climbing structure which features two giant enclosed slides, climbing nets, enclosed netted walkways and even a pirate ship crows nest.

Further along it starts to feel a little Dr Suess, with a large climbing mounds covered in soft matting and a delightful little farmers market cottage with slide.  This gorgeous creation has a slide, outdoor dining area and a couple of little spots to set up in.

The playground also features a two-person flying fox, ninja warrior-like climbing course, swings and includes sensory and all-abilities play too!

If your kids love the market cottage set up in Thorlands Community Park, then check out our review of Ascot Park.

Nature Play

Thornlands Community Park is a lovely nature-themed playground which includes multiple nature-inspired instalments.  Kids will be able to spot plenty of fun larger-than-life vegetables scattered around the playground too!

Explore and you will find plenty of brilliant nature play areas.  The park features a ‘dinosaur dig’ area where kids can uncover a large dinosaur fossil buried in a sandy pit, with excavation tools included.  Alongside this is a large sandpit with diggers and the area is rimmed with large stone and wood stepping stones.

You will also find a stone tunnel and a much-loved water play area that includes pumps, funnels and even a pump shower!

Imagination Factor

There is just so much in Thornlands Park to inspire a child’s imagination.  They can become a mountaineer on the climbing structure or a pirate for the day too.  Maybe they will want to explore far off lands, discover new dinosaur fossils or become a farmer, harvesting the many fruit and vegetables and selling them from their own little bistro at the cubby house.

Accessibility

The park is very wheel friendly too.  Ample concrete pathways wind themselves throughout the park area, making it easy for those in a wheelchair or pushing a pram to get around.  Around the park, outside the fencing, are more concrete pathways that kids with scooters or bikes can ride on too.  There are covered seating areas within and outside of the playground, BBQs and toilet facilities.
