Healthy eating, small children and fun don’t always go hand in hand but this fruit and vegetable themed playground at One Mile might just be the exception! Leichhardt Park offers a fully fenced playground with a charming food design that’ll delight toddlers and offers plenty of space for little imaginations to run wild.
Leichhardt Park Playground
Leichhardt Park in Ipswich is absolutely jam packed with an eclectic mix of activities that span over two play areas. The larger of the two is well suited for the under 5’s with a fruit themed playground, pretend pastry and vegetable filled shop and a variety of novelty spinners and bouncers. There’s also a big sandpit with pretend shop front and mini digger plus a couple of different swing options including a rotating tyre swing.
In the upper section of the parklands, you’ll find equipment for a slightly older audience with a dual, pedal operated helicopter ride and a square climbing frame which doubles as an obstacle course.
Ticking the boxes for speed and excitement is a 30-metre long flying fox which backs on to the only unfenced portion of the upper playground. All up there is over 16 different pieces of equipment to amuse and challenge Brisbane Kids and easily fill up a couple of hours or so.
Positioned throughout the park are several covered picnic tables with BBQs and most are located within the fenced area making this an ideal birthday party location.
Adjacent to the playground is a large, grassy field for ball games and a cricket pitch ready for a friendly match with family or friends. The park is mostly shaded by trees and shade sails apart from the upper playground and flying fox areas.
Imagination Factor at Leichhardt Park
The use of food motifs and grocery shop set-up leads to a style of play which is both fun and toddler-friendly while also allowing for educational opportunities.
The oversized watermelon bouncer is also a real standout and can accommodate multiple children allowing for social play and creating a super sweet photo backdrop! Those with an aversion to broccoli and eggplants might find more joy from the sandy pirate ship and digger for a more hands on approach to play.
Climbers, flyers and thrill seekers are likely to be drawn to the upper section of the parklands with the pedal bikes and climbing course providing nice inspiration for imaginary play and storytelling.
Leichhardt Park Accessibility
Leichhardt Park and its facilities are connected by a concrete path network which is suitable for pram and wheelchair use. There are public restrooms onsite, but it is unclear whether they meet accessibility requirements as there is no signage displayed.

What We Thought of Leichhardt Park
The cute factor is off the charts at Leichhardt Park and we love to see a fully-fenced toddler playground. Apart from the obvious food theme, there’s also plenty of other equipment to entertain the kids in this safe and colourful environment.
Some of the older equipment like the climbing frame could use a bit of TLC but overall this doesn’t detract too much from its charm.
