  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Ken Fletcher Park | Tennyson Riverside Park

Last Updated: August 9, 2023
ken fletcher park tennyson, brisbane, queensland.

Think of a hyped-up playground based on the design of a power station. This image doesn’t even begin to explain the extent of how AWESOME and interesting the equipment at Ken Fletcher Park is.

Ken Fletcher Park playground

Ken Fetcher playground has some industrial-looking playground elements with smokestacks and climbing equipment galore! Firstly, an electrifying power station theme runs across the main climbing elements. This climbing structure must be seen to be believed- intricate, complex and truly incredible!

It’s an aesthetically engaging playground, and it scores big points with kids because it differs from the typical layout in many parks. This playground works for all Brisbane Kids with swings, bouncy seesaw, slides and endless climbing opportunities for all ages.

Parents of younger kids will appreciate the areas of the space designed with toddlers in mind. There is a generous sand and water play zone and a backhoe-shaped fort, a HUGE drawcard for little construction lovers.

Concrete paths lap the playground and may be enjoyed by little ones on balance bikes or scooters. There is also a green grassy space for running, gymnastics or playing ball games. Five swings are available, including a toddler swing, a net swing, and an all-abilities swing with a harness.

Imagination Factor

The playground’s location (built on an old power station site) presents an opportunity to extend play, grab some hard hats and make the most of the power station vibe. The novelty of pretending to be Homer Simpson at work in the powerplant will delight school-aged kids who might have seen a few Simpsons episodes.

Alternatively, a sequencing or coding-based obstacle course challenge may determine how to get across the climbing nets.

Accessibility

Ken Fletcher Park is on relatively flat ground with concreted paths for prams and wheelchairs, and these ramps continue down to the jetty to view the river. There is an all-abilities swing with a harness. There are toilets with disabled access and several disabled car parking spaces.

Neurodiverse kids are likely to be impressed with the technical aspect of the park with lots of signs and symbols. Parents will enjoy the fantastic gross motor development opportunities the climbing nets provide.

Ken Fletcher Park has an amphitheatre you can hire for short events (kids’ dance concerts etc.). Just head to the Brisbane City Council website for more information.

The only downside we can see at this park is the lack of shade which is why we recommend heading to the playground early in the morning or late afternoon and on cool overcast days.

What we thought of Ken Fletcher Park

Ken Fletcher Park was such a hit with my little Brisbane Kid that we did repeat visits in one week! Our favourite part was the sand and water play section, which became a whole-body experience requiring a change of clothes. So, be warned if you have a child who likes to get muddy; they will be happily covered in wet sand before they leave. I appreciated the well-planned landscaping and river glimpses. It was also great to watch my child try new and challenging equipment.

Some other great Brisbane Playgrounds nearby are Simpsons Playground and Alexander Park.

How to get here

Ken Fletcher Park is located on King Arthur Terrace in Tennyson.

it’s disappointing that it’s unfenced…for my situation with 2 toddlers (one ASD that runs off ) it’s the most important feature that is missing. 🙁
