  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Jubilee Park in Bardon | Playground Under the Trees

Last Updated: October 5, 2023
jubilee park playground with shady trees.

If you’re looking for a playground which is great for toddlers and well shaded, then look no further than the cute and colourful Jubilee Park at Bardon. Set under a collection of huge, leafy trees this playground has a bunch of ground level activities which makes it perfect for the smallest of fun seekers.

This popular North Brisbane park spans over two hectares and is home to Brian McGrath Playground and Ernie Toovey cricket oval.

The play space is very generously sized and features an endearing mix of musical instruments, developmental games, climbing structures, spinners, see-saw and swings.

Most charming of all is the “Jubilee Café” – a pretend café nook complete with cash register for bark chip currency, scales and mugs and spoons to spark imaginary play.

It appears the playground has received a few upgrades over its time with a fascinating combination of old and new equipment and a range of different colour schemes. The most recent addition is the green and grey playground which is aimed at more advanced climbers with its monkey bars, spiders web net, bridge and rock climbing wall.

The park is framed by three suburban roads and the playground is somewhat protected from these with partial barriers in place. There are picnic tables and benches located near the playground which also enjoy the sun protection provided by the branches above. An outdoor gym and the large, cricket oval provide plenty of space for active living although no BBQs mean a sausage sizzle is off the cards.

A nice, flat bike path runs along the Empress Terrace side of the parklands, crosses Fletcher Parade and continues parallel with the creek through the very green Fletcher Parade Park. Here you’ll also find a smaller, older playground with enough playground staples to amuse younger children.

Jubilee Park in Bardon is definitely on par with The Enchanted Forest in Ashgrove but is far more spacious and appeals to a greater range of ages.

Imagination Factor

Mini maestros will love the percussion instruments in Jubilee Park, whilst little shopkeepers will have great games of cafes and shops at the play cafe. The spiders web is great for bigger Brisbane Kids escaping giant spiders and the slides will provide hours of entertainment whilst whooshing down the mountains.

Accessibility

Accessible toilets are located on the Crown Street side of the parklands and are approximately 200 metres from the playground. The terrain is completely level however there is no direct, connecting pathway between the playground and toilets. Many of the playground activities are suited to a younger audience making it accessible to children as young as 12 months of age. There is no specific special needs equipment in Jubilee Park.

Jubilee Park features

  • Accessible toilets – some distance from playground
  • Partially fenced
  • Well shaded by trees
  • Bark chip base
  • Baby and toddler swings

What We Thought of Jubilee Park

This playground has loads of character and it’s easy to see why it’s a favourite for local families and especially those with young children. We love the variety of equipment (although some of it does double up) and the shade from the trees. It’s also a delightfully quiet park which parents will appreciate while only being a 15 minute drive from the city centre.

This playground review was written by local parent and explorer Kate.

How to Get There

Jubilee Park is located at 14E Empress Terrace, Bardon QLD 4065. Park is also accessible via Crown Street, Coronation Street and Fletcher Parade.
