Situated just minutes from the city, Oriel Park is ideal for parents who want to let their kids run free while knowing they are safe within a fully fenced area. It’s shady, close to a café, and has picnic tables, BBQs and toilets.
Oriel Park Playground
Approaching Oriel Park, the large, brightly coloured castle forts rouse an instant feeling of excitement. The fully-fenced space is attractive, with plenty of room inside the contained play area. Beautiful shady trees stretch over the playground providing lots of spots to keep Brisbane Kids cool and out of the sun, and shade sails provide extra cover over the central equipment.
There is a lot to interact with here in the playground. The main fort structure is impressive, with various platforms connected by steps and rope bridges. There are so many cool slides, including a smaller toddler option.
Surrounding the fort are many other pieces of equipment to explore, and everything is spaced out beautifully. There is a collection of swings, spring riders, a rope climbing structure, wooden logs to balance upon, and more! This variety of equipment means Oriel Park is a marvellous option for families with children of different ages.
For something different, what looks like an old steam tractor has been converted so Brisbane Kids can climb into the cab and pretend to drive this colossal machine.
Adjacent to the playground is an open grassy space perfect for kicking a ball and having a good run around; however, it is unfenced and borders four roads, so keep an eye on little ones.
With BBQs, shaded picnic tables and toilets, Oriel Park is an excellent spot for a family picnic. There are also lots of little shops and beautiful boutique stores nearby. Use the crossing at Alexandra Road to grab a coffee, meal, or some fruit to enjoy in the shade.
Imagination Factor
With epic castle forts at the centre of this playground, it is clear that this is a location for royal adventures. Noble kings, majestic queens, fearless knights and members of the court take your places and defend your territory. Two dragons (spring riders) surround the castle; if they attack, shelter can be found in the forest to the north or with the brave farmers of the east.
Accessibility at Oriel Park
Oriel Park has accessible toilet facilities. The playground is fenced, with flat, concrete walking paths around the park. A ramp leads up to the play forts, but steps and other climbing obstacles will limit access for people using wheelchairs. Access to the round-a-bout is level with the ground.

What We Thought of Oriel Park
On arrival, I instantly wondered why I had never heard of this park! It’s such a winner. My Brisbane Kid loved climbing the forts and racing friends down the twin tunnel slides. I loved letting him roam with extra freedom, knowing he was safe in the fenced area. During our visit, we saw kids of all ages enjoying the space.

I remember when I was a youngster, there were only a few swings and the old steam tractor at Oriel Park. now they have picnic areas and a lot more things for adults and kids to do.
