  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Scarborough Beach Park | Pirate Place

Last Updated: June 19, 2023
Pirate Place, Scarborough

Scarborough Beach Park, also known as Pirate Place, offers the best of all worlds with trees to climb, sand to play with and sea to swim in! It offers unique play equipment in a fully fenced playground.

Scarborough Beach Park playground

Scarborough Beach Park is a fully fenced and partly shaded playground made up of two play areas – Railway Place and Pirate Place, complete with themed playground equipment. There is also a Cotton Tree Forest, within the fenced play area, which is full of gnarled cottonwood trees which offer exciting climbing opportunities for Brisbane Kids. This feature takes up a a large portion of the play area and makes this park truly special.

Railway Place features shelter sheds and picnic tables, a sand-based play area with permanent sand tables and toys, a stationary train with a track running throughout the play space, a climbing net, swings, balancing equipment and more.

Pirate Place has a boat fort, sheltered area, seesaw and a Cotton Tree Forest. Outside the fenced area are sheltered picnic tables and barbecues which all look over the glorious Scarborough beach. Pack the buckets, spades, towels and swimmers as your Brisbane Kids will be begging you for some seaside action.

Scarborough Beach Park is definitely an area where you can spend a few hours or a whole day. The kids can have a play in the playground, ride the bikes or scooters along the Moreton Bay Cycleway, build sandcastles, collect shells and paddle on the foreshore, play a game of basketball or peruse the many shops that line Landsborough Avenue.

When you get peckish spread out a picnic rug under the shade of the Norfolk Pines, grab fish and chips from a nearby café or just sit and relax with a cup of coffee taking in the scenery.

Imagination Factor at Scarborough Beach Park

Visiting Scarborough Beach Park will instantly ignite your Brisbane Kids imagination. The beach setting and aptly named ‘Pirate Place’ will have the little ones climbing aboard the ‘Calypso Pirate Ship’ and scanning the seas for other pirates whilst clambering up and down the nets and slide. From here they can scale the nearby trees and pretend to be monkeys, koalas or any other animal that may dwell in the treetops. The large branches and abundant foliage creates a great space for hide and seek for the older children (and adults). Next stop, Railway Place, where the youngsters can follow the painted train tracks throughout the park which lead them to the static train and ticket office.

Scarborough Beach Park Moreton Bay Region

Dotted along the Scarborough foreshore are beautiful Norfolk Pine trees. Take a closer look at one situated near the playground and you will see a whimsical door that has been installed by a mystery artist – locals say it’s where Gollum (a character from Lord of the Rings) resides…who knew middle earth was right here in Scarborough? The ‘Gollum Tree’ mysteriously appeared in 2014 and has been intriguing visitors ever since.

Scarborough Beach Park Accessibility

Flat concrete pathways surround the park, which makes for easy access for wheelchairs and prams. However, once inside the fenced playground there is no specific equipment that caters for special needs. There is ample shade throughout the playground provided by shade sails and large, established trees, with plenty of picnic tables and bench seats scattered among the area.

What We Thought of Scarborough Beach Park

There is always something fun to do when you visit Scarborough Beach Park. After a play in the playground my kids are automatically drawn to the massive trees (still in the fenced play area) and will happily spend hours climbing them (just make sure they don’t get stuck up high). We then enjoy morning tea or fish and chips by the water and explore the area immediately surrounding the park – bouncing on the jumping pillow, playing in the sand by the water, or looking for the hidden fairy door.

This park is awesome. Plenty of shade, tables & bbq facilities, pirate ship & train for kids to play on brilliant & trees to climb are just perfect for kids.
The only downside is the toilet facilities aren’t close by to what most would see is the main attraction & the change table for babies & toddlers is gross
