Darlington Parklands Playground
Darlington Parklands is a proper destination park just south of Brisbane in Yarrabilba. Dubbed a ‘super park’, we think Brisbane Kids will agree that this is an excellent place to play in and explore. Darlington Parklands features a fantastic free waterpark, with unique water play activities and shallow pools for kids to splash and cool down in.
The water fountains feed “streams” that flow downhill into a larger pond with “rocks”. The “streams” can be blocked off with hands and feet to make the water flow faster down one. There’s also a zero-depth fountain pad.
The playground at Darlington Parklands features a climbing dome and multi-swing, amongst all the usual playground equipment that kids love. There is a toddler area with smaller fort and sand pit and musical wall and a more extensive fort with a more significant slide and climbing wall.
The expansive park also includes a huge sports/multi-purpose oval, an arbour, plenty of shelters with barbecues and large grassy spaces for running or kicking a ball. The 30 metre twin flying fox and basketball court that is also a multipurpose area with soccer goals at each end and a cricket wicket set to attract bigger Brisbane Kids. The outdoor gym also contains ‘mini exercise equipment’ for kids, and a market square will appeal to parents.
Additional facilities include an accessible toilet block, wetlands with a boardwalk and attractive stone feature walls. Daily light shows can also be enjoyed, via the LED light poles displayed in the parklands. This is just an incredible space for families to enjoy all year round and is perfect for picnics.
Imagination Factor
The double flying fox at Darlington Parklands is perfect for flying races and the 6 seat multi swing means that everyone can swing towards each other. The dips, steps and bends in the water play area will provide hours of cooling fun for Brisbane Kids as they race leaves downstream.
The climbing dome is a perfect nest for birds and dragons or rigging for a pirate ship, and the forts have a distinct castle-like quality for knights, princes, princesses and pillagers.
Accessibility
Darlington Parklands has accessible toilet facilities. The park has several picnic shelters with tables and barbecues and grassy open space to set up for the day. There is plenty of seating and some shade, however, the trees will provide more shade when they grow. The play equipment is suited to a range of age groups, from toddlers to adults. The balance beams wind through Lemon Myrtle Trees, adding a sensory(smell feel) side to the playground.
