I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

George Willmore Park in Ferny Hills

Last updated: March 7, 2023

George Willmore Park in Ferny Hills is popular for family celebrations and community events thanks to the huge greenspace, shade and accessible facilities.

George Willmore Park in North Brisbane is a large open recreation space for the community in the middle of suburbia. It is a space that encourages your kids to engage with the entirety of the park, playing on the playground and running or scooting along the bike path that encircles the grassy field.

It also features multiple sheltered picnic tables and BBQs, with accessible toilets near the playground, making this a great choice for picnics and birthday celebrations.

The playground mainly focuses on play equipment for younger kids, although bigger kids will still enjoy the open space, scooter paths and nearby sports offerings. Shade from mature trees means you can visit at any time of day.

Your toddler will likely run straight to the playground fort perfectly designed for small legs, with steps and nets for climbing and two slides to enjoy the journey back down. This vibrant green playground fort sits amongst various playground offerings, including a unique climbing frame, swings and a fenced Velocitron (pedal-powered ride).

There is an open cricket pitch and cricket nets for cricket enthusiasts, so bring the bat and ball. There’s also plenty of room to kick a ball around on the big oval, exercise on the equipment provided, shoot some hoops on the basketball court or dance around on the stage.

Ferny Hills Swimming Pool is a short walk from George Willmore Park  (complete with a toddler pool), which is perfect for cooling off after a hot morning or afternoon at the playground.

Imagination Factor

Velocitron at George Willmore Park

Kids can put on a show for family and friends on the stage or run between ‘forts’ at the playground and the beautiful gazebo facing the playground. The climbing web and (extremely fun) pedal-powered ‘Velocitron’ (pictured) are also excellent equipment for imaginary play!

Accessibility

This park has two accessible toilet facilities, while the wider park is encircled by a flat, wide paved path making it accessible for prams and wheelchairs. The playground itself, other than the scale (small size), is not particularly accessible.

George Willmore Park features

  • Accessible toilet facilities
  • Nappy changing facilities
  • Bark base, soft fall rubber base under swings
  • Extensive shade thanks to mature eucalypt trees
  • Electric BBQs
  • Climbing nets
  • Swings
  • Slides
  • Fort
  • Basketball court
  • Cricket pitch
  • Large grassy field
  • Bike and pram friendly walking paths
  • Fitness equipment
  • Open grassy space
  • Seats and sheltered picnic tables
  • Drinking fountain
  • Plenty of space to park your car (street parking)

George Willmore Park hosts community events throughout the year, including the annual Hills Carnivale and Christmas Carols in the park.

Another excellent playground for kids can be found nearby at Leslie Patrick Park, and the Hills Playground at Arana Hills.

What we thought of George Willmore Park playground

My first impression of George Willmore Park was that this was an impressive setup with enough variety and space to accommodate a whole day of activity (particularly if you combine a play with a swim at the Aquatic Centre).

How to get here

The playground is located at the corner of Amaroo Ave and Bundar Crescent in Ferny Hills, with the closest bus stop 250 meters away (Bunora Ave near Bundar Cr, bus route 398).
