With vast green plains, two great playgrounds, a large pond, a river jetty and a hill perfect for rolling down or running up, the Sherwood Arboretum is a fantastic place for your Brisbane Kids to have a day full of adventure.
Sherwood Arboretum Playground
Trees and picnic tables scattered around the park and near the BBQs provide many options for families to pick a spot to unwind while the kids play in the playgrounds at Sherwood Arboretum. The shaded areas with accompanying river breezes also encourage families and groups to bring their own tables, chairs and portable gazebos.
The two different playgrounds provide many options for your Brisbane Kids to play, climb, swing and explore.
The older wooden fort is hidden beneath the broad branches of large trees. This area is excellent for toddlers and younger children. It is accessible by ramps and some small steps, while a small fireman’s pole and toddler slide provide fun ways to exit. The fort has some sensory play items and some spinning blocks. Little drivers can use the steering wheel, and passenger chair for a pretend bus or ferry. In addition, there are monkey bars and a flying fox, which are shorter and closer to the ground than usual, allowing little ones a greater chance of success.
The large play area is very well-appointed with modern equipment. This space has something for everyone, especially children who enjoy climbing.
There are two climbing forts here, a smaller and a large one, plus a large rope pyramid and a rope spider web. Additionally, children will encounter climbing nets, slides, different types of foot holds, tunnels, monkey bars, raised stepping stones and more! Surrounding the forts are spring riders, dizzy sticks and swings, including infant swings and an all-abilities swing with a harness.
Imagination Factor
The seemingly endless space, enormous trees and fantastic hill make the Sherwood Arboretum a terrific canvas for any game. Children can spend hours playing hide and seek amongst the playgrounds and surrounding trees. There is plenty of space for ball sports or even learning to ride bikes without stabilisers on flat, even green grass.
The Sherwood Arboretum covers an area of 15 hectares and contains approximately 1100 trees, representing approximately 250 species and is part of the wider Brisbane Botanic Gardens collection.
Accessibility
There are wheelchair-accessible toilets. Flat pathways lead from the car park to the playgrounds, BBQ, and gazebo areas. The path continues down to the river walk and jetty. There is a small wheelchair-accessible deck at the duck pond. In the playground, the wooden fort is accessible by a ramp, and there is a swing with a harness.

What we thought of Sherwood Arboretum
We thought Sherwood Arboretum offered something for everyone; it would be a delightful place to bring grandparents for a picnic. We had a great time pretending we were on a bear hunt as we wandered around the park. Hats and water bottles were valued as we went on our adventure.
