The suburban oasis of Brooking Parklands in Ripley is home to an engaging, multi-level playground and expansive green space that will appeal to the whole family.
Brooking Parklands Playground
Brooking Parklands in Ripley can best be described as a climber’s paradise with multiple ways for children to move between the upper and lower levels, including three, uniquely designed slides, a rock climbing wall and ropes.
The playground also features an abstract-looking climbing frame which consists of a series of nets, ladders and support beams, which is certain to grab the attention of avid little climbers. Lastly, a large, multi-sided, cube-like structure will test the more confident “rock climbers” with proper hand and foot holds similar to an indoor rock climbing wall.
Not to be forgotten is a set of swings, see saw and a mini sand digger to keep smaller adventurers busy. A network of shade sails provides good sun protection however the steel slides are susceptible to the heat and should be checked before use on a hot day.
Nearby is a covered BBQ area with a double hot plate BBQ available for use. There are also scattered park benches throughout the parklands and a beautifully maintained green space which lends itself perfectly to picnics, sporting activities or walking the pet dog.
Visiting playgrounds is one of our favourite things to do in Ipswich with kids on a nice sunny day.
Imagination Factor
Brooking Parklands playground is designed to work around the natural environment by using the existing hills and curves to create a two-level playing experience. Children are faced with multiple options to climb between the upper and lower sections, which promotes decision-making, problem-solving and imaginative play.
The central climbing structure’s interesting colour, shape and design also promotes the idea of open-ended play and are a real highlight. This idea can also be seen by including three distinctively different slides that are visually interesting and invite children to engage in shared play with friends or parents.
Options for younger children are more limited but bring along the diggers, tractors and buckets to make the most of the playground’s sandy base (if you don’t mind bringing a bit of sand home with you!)
Accessibility
Brooking Parklands is not fenced nor has any toilet facilities at the current time. The playground and BBQ areas are situated across several levels which are all connected by pram and wheelchair-friendly pathways. Remember that access to the upper level is quite steep and it is difficult to move between the two levels quickly. This is stage one of the park development, with updates and further features expected to be added.
