  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Grahame Stewart Park at Currimundi | Sprawling Sunshine Coast playground

Last Updated: November 12, 2021
Grahame Stewart Park Currimundi

Currimundi, on the Sunshine Coast, is a kids’ paradise. There’s a beautiful surf beach, calm-water lake, walking tracks, as well as the excellent playground and bike tracks at Grahame Stewart Park.

The fun to be had

When you need a break from the beach, grab the kids’ bikes or scooters and head to the Graham Stewart Park. There’s so much to do there, that you could spend a whole morning or afternoon at this park. Families can picnic, barbeque, cycle, climb, spin, swing, slide and run at this wonderful park that offers something for all ages and abilities. The mini traffic track is a big drawcard and allows kids to ride and scooter off the busy coastal bike tracks that can be problematic in managing with kids (especially if they are just learning).

A playground makeover has seen the installation of even more exciting play equipment including a wheelspin, pod swing, sand digger, a variety of play panels and even a playhouse as an invitation for rich creative play.

Imagination factor at the playground

At the Grahame Stewart Park, your little one can be a train driver, mountain climber, or police officer directing traffic, depending on which section of the playground they’ are playing in. The themed playground equipment is perfect for promoting imaginative play and keeping kids busy for hours.

Grahame Stewart Park – Special Needs

Kids with special needs are accommodated at this park, with flat paths that connect the different playground areas, and a high-back disability-friendly swing (note: this is not a Liberty Swing). The junior playground has been updated so that children with special needs can play alongside their friends with easy access to the play equipment. The secret to this playground is in the set up of play, designed to help kids develop both their social and motor skills without even realising. With bucket and pulley systems, sand play and a host of other reactive play, Proludic playground makers should be congratulated on their thoughtful design and construction.

Toilet facilities are also located within Grahame Stewart Park. Shelters with picnic tables, water fountains and barbeques make picnicking in the park easy. Plenty of parking is available.

More for kids at Currimundi Lake and Surf Beach

Only a short walk or ride from the Grahame Stewart Park is the beautiful Currimundi Lake and Surf Beach.

This spot has it all for families – shady trees which hang over the beach (it doesn’t matter if you forget the beach umbrella!), calm and mostly shallow water for paddling in, and a vast expanse of sand for digging in.

As you gaze out over the lake, you’ll see families rowing boats, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and swimming. If you don’t have your own equipment, you can hire kayaks and stand up paddle boards from Kite Thrills, a surf shop situated right on the beach front. Beginners can follow the Currimundi Lake Canoe Trail for a peaceful paddle up the lake.

The lake is also a popular fishing spot, and you may be lucky enough to snag a whiting or bream. Bring a yabby pump to catch fresh bait. The kids will enjoy catching sand, mud and hermit crabs and small fish in nets and buckets.

When the tide is going out, a sandy island forms in the middle of the lake. It’s a great spot for a game of beach cricket or to throw a Frisbee around with friends.

The lake flows out into the ocean and there is a surf beach for those who like to boogie board or swim in the waves. On weekends and school holidays, the surf beach is patrolled by lifesavers.

Dogs are not allowed in the fenced area of the park. So if you want to bring your furry family member with you it will be very difficult to watch your child while looking after your pet outside the fence 20 meters away from the playground.
