Situated directly across Dandenong Road from the Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre, Lorikeet Park Mt Ommaney is a hidden gem nestled in a quiet patch of eucalyptus trees.
With a fenced playground, accessible toilets and a flying fox, Lorikeet Park is worth a visit for families with younger Brisbane Kids.
Lorikeet Park Playground
Visitors entering Lorikeet Park from Greenway Circuit are greeted by a giant tiled lizard basking in the sun. Children love clambering along its back and sitting on its head as they take in their surroundings.
Lorikeet Park’s playground equipment range is well-spaced within a large, fenced area. The play base is a mix of soft fall and bark chips. The path that loops around the playground, inside the fence, would be appropriate for trikes and balance bikes.
At one end of the playground is a medium-sized fort accessible by ramps, climbing nets and stairs. Along the walkway to the top, the children will find a control panel to make some adjustments before continuing up. At the top, they can scan the perimeter through the binoculars or take hold of a steering
wheel. A double wave slide and a fireman’s pole make for a quick exit.
Next to the fort and low to the ground is a toddler play section featuring chime bars, a mirrored circle, shapes to move along a track and a spinning noughts and crosses game.
The middle of Lorikeet Park features a good-sized flying fox, 3 stand-on spinning poles, 3 spring riders and a hammock swing. There are also 5 swings arranged in a pentagonal shape, including 2 toddler swings, 2 regular swings and an all-abilities swing with a harness. At the base of the park is a ramp-
accessible sway fun glider.
Imagination Factor
Look up! Nesting boxes fill the native trees around the playground. Little wildlife adventurers might spot some lorikeets, possums or other wildlife while exploring the bush, enjoying lunch at a covered picnic table, or sharing a BBQ with their family.
Accessibility
The playground is accessible by paved walkways. Inside the park, a pathway goes around the internal perimeter, leading to the sway fun glider. Parts of the fort are accessible by a ramp, and there is an all-abilities swing with a harness. A smooth path leads down a gentle slope to the accessible toilets.

What we thought of Lorikeet Park
We loved taking turns gliding through the air on the flying fox. A particular highlight was seeing a pair of lorikeets peeping out of their hollow. Although there are shade sails over part of the park and lots of surrounding trees, shade can be limited during the middle of the day. During the summer months, bring
your hat and time your visit to avoid the heat of the day.
