Nestled among the houses in picturesque Newport on Brisbane’s northside, Central Park is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered by local families.
Central Park playground
The playground at Central Park is tailored to both young and old Brisbane Kids, with distinct areas for each age-group.
Older children will be drawn to the large, climbing net structure which towers over the rest of the park. Climbers will be challenged reaching the top via the nets, or perhaps trying to scale the sliding poles. Once they reach the top, they can scramble across the rope bridges and descend by sliding down the fast, metal slide or turning around and going back down the nets.
Over in the other play area, smaller children will delight in playing on the small fort, shaped like a house, and sliding down one of the slides.
A bank of swings, including a nest, standard and toddler swing will see the kids swinging to and fro, asking to go higher and higher. A four-seated, bouncy seesaw and spinning merry-go-round is lots of fun for multiple children.
Wide, concrete paths weave around the playground, which is ideal for those on scooters, balance bikes or learning to ride.
Plenty of seating options surround the playground, which is perfect for supervising adults who might like to relax and sip on a hot drink while they watch the kids play. Given it has toilets and picnic shelters it also make a great venue for a kids birthday party.
Central Park Imagination Factor
The bigger children will have fun on the large, netted climbing fort escaping shark infested waters below, reaching the top to look out for danger, or scrambling across the bridges escaping the baddies. The smaller children will also be happy playing house in the small fort and slipping down the slides. Or perhaps they may want to bring a bucket and spade and dig for treasure.
Central Park Accessibility
Accessing Central Park from either of the carparks can be done via wide, concrete pathways, suitable for wheelchairs, walking aides and prams. But unfortunately, as the playground is mostly sand based, it is not overly suitable for those with mobility limitations. The play area is mostly covered by shade sails, though some areas will experience sun and can get hot on hotter days.
Sheltered picnic tables are located around the playground, with an accessible toilet, including a baby change table is available at the park.

What We Love About Central Park
This playground is definitely one for the climbers. The kids loved the challenge of navigating to the top of the climbing nets, to traverse the bridges and then zip down the metal slide. From a parent point of view, I loved that there is plenty of shade, toilets and is a playground that is not overcrowded with children.
