As new housing estates pop up all over south-east Queensland, so do the fabulous neighbourhood playgrounds that accompany them. Amity Park in Narangba is no exception. There is plenty of equipment to occupy the children and ample seating for adults. A basketball half-court and outdoor table tennis table will entertain the older children, whilst the younger children can slip, slide, climb, run and soar on the sprawling fort-style playground.
Amity Park Playground
As you approach Amity Park, you will notice a large blue and grey fort which has multiple levels and towers, catering to a variety of ages, covered partially by brilliant blue shade sails.
Toddlers can enjoy the many play and music panels that are low to the ground, which as such, are usually shaded by the above equipment. Depending on the climbing ability of your child, there are multiple levels to this playground, including wobbly bridges, curly fire poles, climbing nets and multiple slides. As many areas within this fort link to each other, it is an idea to check out just how far you are willing to let your child explore, before they find themselves in a tricky situation.
A track ride, which is similar to a flying fox, extends from one of the platforms, and will require great upper body strength to master. Falls will be cushioned by a soft wood chip ground covering (though hopefully these aren’t a common occurrence!)
A bank of swings is located under shade sails and contains two standard swings as well as a shell nest swing, which you can lay, stand or sit on whilst gliding through the sky.
Imagination Factor
Playgrounds, such as Amity Park, with large fort structures lends itself perfectly to an epic game of tag, with children being able to hide in tunnels, slip down slides or scale climbing nets. Little ones can explore the music and play panels dotted around the play area or perhaps daydream whilst swinging on the nest swing or mini hammock.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, there is no specific play equipment at Amity Park which is accessible, though there is a nest swing, which could be used by all-abilities. The ground cover throughout the park is soft wood chip, with a soft fall base under the swings. Concrete paths surround the playground, which could be used by wheelchairs and prams. Sheltered picnic tables are available. The playground is partially shaded by shade sails but as with all playgrounds, care should be taken on equipment which is exposed to direct sun.
