One of the latest playgrounds to pop up in the ever expanding region of the Ripley Valley, Whiterock Adventure Playground and Splash Pad is set to become a hot destination for summer fun seekers. Its intriguing “play curl” structure makes it stand out from the crowd plus it’s also joined by a bunch of other great features like free water play and natural exploration zones.
Whiterock Adventure Playground
After driving a few minutes into the Whiterock housing development, you’ll see the adventure playground appear like a mirage on the horizon. So integral it is to the heart of this new community it has been built before construction has begun on most of the houses.
Upon entering the beautifully designed space, the first thing you’ll notice is the huge and uniquely shaped “play curl” which looks more like a sculptural masterpiece than it does a playground. The Australian first design is over 16 metres long and can accommodate up to 40 children at a time in its mixture of net climbs, rock climbing holds, rubber ramps, balancing ropes and suspended resting areas.
The difficulty of the obstacles and enclosed nature of the space gives this playground a recommended age bracket of 5 – 12 years old but there is plenty of other activities to get the toddlers involved.
Whiterock Splash Pad
Bring the togs and let the kids splash their little hearts out in the colourful, zero depth, water play zone. There’s a variety of interactive elements including fountains, kid controlled water cannons and step on sprinkler pads which bring the fun and the cool down factor.
The area is pretty well covered by shade sails but best to pack the sunscreen as an extra precaution. Rounding out the play space is a bunch of other playgrounds favourites like a embankment slide, swings, seesaw, educational games and an accessible carousel.
The parklands are also set up with full picnic amenities making it a top choice for birthday parties and family gatherings.
Imagination Factor at Whiterock Adventure Playground
The aptly named “play curl” is a great foundation for imaginary play. There are no obvious entry points when first approaching the structure which creates a sense of mystery and allows for children to flex their problem solving skills. Once inside there is space to climb and explore to use up all that energy or simply find a spot to sit and relax with friends.
Running adjacent to the curl is a dry creek bed with cylindrical stepping stones which provide a nice contrast to the metal and steel of the playground while also encouraging a nature style of play. The different ground textures, height of equipment and water play all combine to form a multi-sensory experience for children of all ages while also setting up pretend play opportunities.
Accessibility at Whiterock Adventure Playground
This playground is located on nice, even terrain with connecting paths throughout making it easy to navigate with prams. The ground level carousel spinner is designed to be accessed by children of all abilities and promotes inclusive play. There are disabled toilets and a baby change room on site.

What We Thought of Whiterock Adventure Playground and Splash Pad
Whiterock definitely earns its place next to other adventure playgrounds in the Ipswich region with its striking appearance and creative use of materials.
We love the open-ended play opportunities of the centrepiece “play curl” while the feature packed splash pad is sure to get squeals of delight from the younger kids. You could quite happily spend a couple of hours here but make sure to pack everything you need as there really are no other facilities in sight.
