A partially fenced playground with toilets, fitness equipment and coffee nearby, John Walker Place offers all these things and more. In addition, relaxing river views, make it a delightful place to stop and play while enjoying a walk along the Brisbane Corso at Yeronga.
John Walker Place Playground
Yeronga’s riverfront is home to a tranquil park that is a perfect pit stop while out on a morning stroll.
The park features a lovely sand-floored children’s playground best suited to preschool and primary school-aged children. Shade sails cover the fort, which has several climbing options, including a ladder, rope bridge and rock climbing footholds. A bold blue slide is an express path back to the ground.
Under the fort are lots of peek-a-boo windows, a tunnel and an assortment of game and sensory play panels for toddlers to explore while older children can master the games or solve the puzzles.
Surrounding the fort are swings, talking tubes, and a spinning sphere to sit or lie upon as the world whizzes by. There is also an excavator shovel for children to sit on and dig in the sand.
Nearby Family Fun
Bike paths meander along the Brisbane Corso in either direction from the playground. These may be better suited to confident riders as the path is reasonably close to the road in some areas.
Yeronga BMX Jumps is across the road from the playground parking area. It is a place BMX riders enjoy with well-designed tracks and natural shade from surrounding trees. The track offers jumps of varying difficulty levels, allowing all BMX riders to enjoy themselves and work on their skills.
Just a few hundred metres from the playground, the Baladi coffee trailer is open every Tuesday – Sunday from 6 am – 11ish. It is right in front of the Somerville House Water Sports Facility, an easy, flat walk from the playground.
Imagination Factor at John Walker Place
With sand and an excavator, this park can become an archeological dig site. Search for precious artefacts from long ago or hidden treasures buried by the sands of time. Perhaps dinosaur fossils are waiting to be discovered.
Bringing buckets, shovels, trucks, and other sand toys will extend the play opportunities for little Brisbane Kids.

What We Thought of John Walker Place
We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this playground, as any location with sand, shade, and coffee is a winner for us. The sit-on excavator was a big hit with my son and other children at the park during our visit. While the children played, I enjoyed the beautiful river views surrounding me.
