Playground fun at The Gap
Walton Bridge Reserve is a fantastic destination playground and park that you could easily spend hours enjoying and exploring with your Brisbane Kids.
Divided into three separate play spaces suited to different age groups, there’s sure to be something here to please every member of the family. All spaces with Walton Bridge Reserve feature lots of grassy spots and many shady gum trees.
The Enoggera Creek Bikeway passes through the reserve, with clear signage to calculate the distance you have travelled.
The spacious main carpark at Walton Bridge Reserve (located on the left before you cross Walton Bridge, heading inbound) leads into the primary playground, which was completely rebuilt and reopened in December 2017.
The first playground
This playground is highly accessible, with many paths, ramps and boardwalks for easy access. The play area features several elements, predominantly sheltered by shade sails and tall shady gum trees. A climbing fort with nets, platforms, climbing walls, a tunnel slide and a wobbly bridge is the focal point, with an accompanying sand play feature to provide entertainment for kids both big and small.
The adjacent ground level rope bridge leads Brisbane Kids to a shade sail covered area featuring a swinging hammock, swings and a springy see-saw for three, with a small slide and rock feature set into the slope for kids to approach from a different angle. A spinning climbing sphere completes the playground and is guaranteed to elicit many squeals of delight. There is ample bench seating scattered throughout this play area, along with two new picnic shelters, BBQs, accessible toilet facilities, and the larger, original Lions Club shelter with BBQ located next to the carpark.
The second playground
The lower paths of Walton Bridge Reserve follow the natural curves of Fish Creek, and link up to the Enoggera Creek Bikeway. Heading down to this path from the primary playground, you will find a wide footbridge over the creek that leads you to the second play area. Suited to a younger age group the playground features a timber fort-style play structure with slide, ramps, balancing ropes, rockers and swings (infant and regular). This part of the park also has a shelter with table and water. A dirt path leads down the banks to a rocky creek bed, and a creek perfect for net fishing for guppies. The carpark for this playground is just after Walton Bridge heading inbound, though it can only be approached from the inbound lanes.
The bikeway and skate bowl
Back on the primary playground side of the creek, the awesome Enoggera Creek Bikeway passes beneath Walton Bridge to space for older Brisbane Kids. This area features a popular skate bowl, a large gazebo, and art featuring plaques dedicated to a local resident who contributed to the development of the suburb. The carpark for this section is on the left-hand side of Waterworks Road, accessed via Glenaffric Street.
Imagination Factor
Walton Bridge Reserve is the ideal adventure land for explorers. Make sure you pack the gumboots and fishing nets for a spot of guppy fishing and the perfect opportunity to search for other wildlife. The forts of the primary playground will provide simply hours of climbing fun and make a great lookout from the highest points. In many parts of this reserve, Brisbane Kids can enjoy the natural surroundings and watch the clouds roll by whilst feeling like they are very far from the hustle and bustle of the nearby busy suburb.
Accessibility
Walton Bridge Reserve has accessible toilet facilities that were built as part of the renovation in late 2017. There are several wide, concrete paths connecting the toilets to the play areas and picnic shelters, with ramps for complete accessibility. The concrete bike paths also link each of the play spaces. Walton Bridge Reserve has barbecues, picnic tables and shelters, bench seats, shady trees, and grassy open space to set up for the day. The playground equipment is suited to a variety of ages and abilities. All playgrounds are unfenced and the creek is nearby, so vigilance with younger Brisbane Kids is needed.

Hi Jaimee, I’m really sorry you feel that way. My family loves this park 🙂 Did you explore all three separate areas and the creek? As it is the school holidays, that may be the reason for the rubbish and older kids hanging out? My kids love the creek and the play equipment closest to the police station, especially the flying fox 🙂 Brooke, Creative Assistant.
