Bring along your bikes, skateboards, basketball shoes, soccer ball and even your muscles as Sutton Park in Brassall has facilities to suit all outdoor enthusiasts! Situated near the heart of Ipswich and about 45 minutes from Brisbane CBD is an expansive green space which includes a fully shaded playground, several covered seating options and a well connected series of workout areas, skate park and learn to ride track.
Sutton Park Brassall Playground
The Sutton Park play area features a small toddler-sized playground which is ideal for playground beginners as it’s close to the ground and has a low thrill factor with a slide, steering wheel and telescope features. A high-set flying fox and monkey bars will challenge the older and taller kids while the swings complete the list of standard playground must-haves. The playground portion is fenced from the busy road and is easily viewable from any of the four shaded picnic shelters providing that extra peace of mind.
Adjacent to the playground is a great learn to ride track which is given partial shading from the leafy surrounding trees. Road signage and markings have been added to give a touch of realness and operational traffic lights give children an opportunity to practise their road safety skills in a fun and practical way.
Those more confident riders or keen skateboarders can take to the large skating bowl about fifty metres from the main playground. Many hours could be spent honing the perfect kickflip or ollie while parents and carers can watch on from the undercover seating. The long, concrete path also provides an excellent opportunity for riders of all skill levels but is largely unshaded so remember those hats!
If you’ve still got the energy to burn after the playground, biking and half-court basketball then the park also contains a full workout zone set up with weights, box jumps, ropes and more. Gym fans can experience a real outdoor gym experience, and although the kids will undoubtedly want to join in, this one is more for adults.
Imagination Factor
With so much on offer, Sutton Park invites Brisbane Kids to choose their own adventure. Sporty kids will be instantly drawn to the flat, green space in the centre of the parkland which provides the perfect backdrop for a spot of cricket or a friendly soccer match. Smaller gym equipment such as cross trainers and push-up bars located on the far side of the park will also help use up that boundless energy before heading home.
Although the playground is small, visitors will be drawn to the colourful equipment and spacious tree-lined area. Enquiring minds will ask about the zebra crossings and green pedestrian lights while equipment like the large sea saw and spinning circle allows shared play.
Accessibility
Sutton Park contains five accessible toilets close to the BBQ areas and playground. One path connects all the workout, sporting fields, tracks and playgrounds beginning from Vogel Rd, which is the best option for on-street parking. Convenient parking is also available at the Ipswich City Football Club when not full or otherwise in use. The playground contains an adaptive sing however there was no harness attached at the last check.

What We Thought of Sutton Park
The playground is not as exciting or revolutionary as those more newly built. Still, we think the large variety of other activities makes Sutton Park a great option for active Brisbane families. It is a decent drive from Brisbane, so pack the car up with helmets, hats, sunscreen, and maybe even a picnic lunch to make the trip worthwhile.
