  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Teviot Downs Park in New Beith

Last updated: July 23, 2023
Teviot Downs Park in New Beith

Teviot Downs Park is nestled in the quiet suburb of New Beith, surrounded by thick bushland. Only occasionally can we use the words beautiful and enchanting when describing a children’s playground, but Teviot Downs Park is just that. From the landscaping in keeping with the natural environment to the garden theme of the toddler section, it would be the perfect place for a family gathering or a children’s birthday party.

Teviot Downs Park suits both big and small Brisbane Kids. The main play structure is engaging and aims to encourage thinking and physical activity. It has various optical illusions to engage with and plenty of traditional playground fun!

It also caters to climbers, with various climbing elements to challenge even the most confident of climbers and more accessible options for those who are not so confident. There are three slides, a small flying fox, a fireman’s pole, and a toddler and standard swing adjacent to the structure. This section has a sand base and while the leading play platforms have small roofs for shade,  there is additional shade from the mature trees in this park.

The toddler section captures the imagination. Here you’ll meet some new friends. Two lizards, an adult frog and a smaller frog resting by the lily pads, all made from recycled rubber. It has a three-way seesaw with flower petal seats and a bongo drum, all shaded by beautiful butterfly shade cloth. A large garden chime is on the other side of the grove of recycled rubber toadstools.

Surrounding the play space is a concreted path perfect for bikes and scooters and ample grassed areas for running or ball games. A half-court basketball court is near the bathrooms.

There is also a large skate park with plenty of fun obstacles, ramps, bowls and rails for experienced skaters, gentle slopes and extra smooth surfaces to assist beginners. The path between the play area and the skate park is decorated with beautiful murals of native wildlife you can find in the local bushland.

Imagination Factor

The toddler garden space is beautiful; even older children will be enchanted. It has been designed for them to climb and crawl over the animals and toadstools, and with the native birdsong from the surrounding bushland, it feels pretty magical.

Lay back, lean against a lizard and look up at the sky. Cloud spot, identify some native birdlife, or appreciate the butterflies on the shade cloth above.

It is the perfect place to encourage a love of the Australian bush, particularly the birdlife. Otherwise, bang away on the musical instruments and create a musical masterpiece.  This area is well-shaded with a large shade sail.

Accessibility

Off-street parking is available, as are public bathrooms, which are all-abilities accessible. There are four shade structures with tables and chairs; each has an electric barbecue. These are all connected by a concrete path to the car park and bathrooms. The playground would get quite warm in the midday sun; perhaps plan your visit in the mornings or afternoons.

What we thought of the park?

We visit lots of playgrounds across Brisbane, so it is always refreshing to see a playground that has stepped outside the plastic-fantastic type approach. My kids loved the unique native animal inclusions, and I imagine this appreciation would have been far greater had they been toddlers.
