  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Hercules Street Park Hamilton

Last Updated: September 20, 2020
hercules steet park mega slide

Hercules Street Park is not like anything we’ve seen before. It is a Brisbane playground creation that is certainly going to burn up a lot of energy. With its huge rubberised mound, an abundance of cargo netting and mega slides, it’s an active kid’s dream come true.

Hercules Street playground

It’s hard to pick one standout feature of this playground. It is all fantastic tactile, agility testing, fast pace type play.

The first thing you will notice (apart from the slides) is the unique plastic mound construction that sits atop 3 massive tunnels. Up the sides of the mound, there are numerous climbing apparatuses to climb even further from stairs to nets or just via the plastic mounds themselves.

The mound is also connected to the general playground structure and its maze of cargo netting. The upper level offers more agility and climbing opportunities and a large metal spiral slide leads back to the ground.

On the lower level of the metal structure is a chalkboard (you will need to pack your own chalk and duster), hammocks for some quiet time, basket swing and yep, more cargo netting to climb.

The water play area

After all that climbing, running and fast-paced activity, there is also a water play area. It is a fairly simple setup, some water jets spraying down from above and mist spraying from below. Simple and cooling which is perfect for a hot summer’s day.

A large grassy area separates the main playground with a ball game area. There is a bounce wall which has a half-court basketball court, a wall with targets, painted on wickets and tennis markings. Next to the bounce wall is a table tennis table (BYO bats and balls) and exercise equipment. Surrounding the grass field is a lovely smooth path, great for scooters!

Imagination Factor

The playground doesn’t have a strong theme, although it does have a slightly industrial feel. It’s been designed to get kids moving, climbing, jumping, crawling and running. It’s perfect for a game of tag, obstacle courses, ninjas and other physical challenge type games.

Accessibility

While this is a fantastic playground it does have a few accessibility drawbacks. Being in a high-density area there is limited street car parking, and a very limited off-street carpark. This carpark is accessed by turning off Kingsford Smith Drive onto Northshore drive only. There is no right turn into the carpark. If parking on the street, be careful of yellow lines and signage regarding time limits. Be prepared to walk a short distance.

The play area is partially shaded, however it does get warm during peak UV times. It would be best visited early in the morning or later in the day. Owing to the large scale of the playground it can be quite difficult to keep an eye on multiple children, however, it is fenced along the roadside.

The waterplay is integrated with the play space and so even if you have no intention of letting your children get wet, it may be inevitable. Wet children then play on the play equipment, which then makes the playground damp. There is little for kids with special needs to play on, a more inclusive playground in this area would be New Farm Park at New Farm. It’s not especially catering for toddlers, although there is enough to keep them occupied if they are accompanying older siblings. A better playground suited exclusively for toddlers would be Ascot Playground at Ascot.

The location of this playground makes it a great stop-off point for outings to Eat Street Markets, Portside at Hamilton or China Town. It’s also convenient to Brisbane Airport for some plane spotting.

Hercules Park is located on 40 Remora Rd, Hamilton QLD 4007 but we highly advise reading our information regarding accessibility before you go
