A sky high activity tower and skate park will keep the big kids busy while a dedicated toddler playground is sure to keep little adventurers safe and happy.

Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve Playground

The central playground is all about the vertical thrill with a 9-metre tall adventure tower made from cargo netting, platforms and ladders. It’s a challenging climb but the roped exterior allows for good parental supervision and encouragement if needed.

Successful climbers have a choice of either a super speedy tunnel slide or a darkened, twisty tube slide, which will excite older playground enthusiasts.

Another stand out feature is the 20-metre long high ropes style course which again is aimed at the bigger kids and is a real test of balance, strength and coordination. Mini climbers can also enjoy the course with the help of a guiding adult hand.

In addition to this, the play space also contains a giant, rotating birds nest swing and multiple bay swing set for joint play plus cool spinners for the sensory seekers.

Adjacent to this is a brightly coloured, platform-style playground designed completely with your littlest family members in mind. This fantastic junior playground was upgraded only two years ago and is suitable for ages 1 to 5 with its easy to access platforms, ground level educational activities, gentle slides and cute pretend play environments.kids playground redbank plains ninja playground equipment.

On top of this, are other playground essentials such as swings, see saws, bouncers and inclusive carousel – all built on a soft base and with generous shade sail coverings. There’s also plenty of nearby seating to help keep a close eye on the kids or to settle in for a picnic lunch.

Located just along the footpath is a huge skate park which has also recently undergone a makeover and is popular among skaters of all skill levels. The skate park also neighbours a large grassy field, making for the ideal soccer pitch, friendly cricket match, or even an afternoon of kite flying.

Redbank Plains Reserve Imagination Factor

The main activity tower is a great source for imaginary play as its abstract design creates a blank canvas for storytelling. Ropes and netting are reminiscent of a pirate ship and the crown like shape on top could lead to games of princes and princesses. The nearby high ropes course also provides a great setting for pretend play with its elements of height, risk and adventure.

The neighbouring toddler playground is jam packed with sensory experiences from the musical instruments to the interactive games with fun to be discovered at every corner. Shop and cafe fronts are also included to promote social inclusion and to guide children towards a creative style of play.

What our kids loved about this park!

toddler playground redbank recreation reserve.

We love the excitement and wow factor of modern playgrounds like the one at Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve but what really gets our tick of approval is the equally impressive toddler playground. A lot of care and thought has been given to creating a space that’s inviting and accessible for children of all ages which earns this playground a spot on your to visit list.

It’s hard work with all that playing, so why not stop by Springfield Central for a refreshing dip in Orion Lagoon or have a splash at Robelle Domain Splash Park. Another great resource is our comprehensive list of Ipswich Parks

Spring Mountain Reserve https://brisbanekids.com.au/spring-mountain-reserve/ https://brisbanekids.com.au/spring-mountain-reserve/#respond Tue, 24 Nov 2020 08:43:08 +0000 http://www.brisbanekids.com.au/?p=268450 Spring Mountain Reserve has something for everyone! There’s a large playground area, fitness equipment, shaded picnic tables and even a ninja-style obstacle course.  Situated South West of Brisbane City at Greenbank, Spring Mountain is a beautiful area surrounded by farms and forest and this reserve is situated beside a waterway.

Spring Mountain Reserve Playground

A major drawcard of Spring Mountain Reserve is the fun ninja style obstacle course.  This course loops around and allows Brisbane Kids of all ages to challenge themselves with different ninja style obstacles similar to those they might have seen on TV.  It includes hurdles, spinning wheels, balance beams, stepping stones, monkey bars and a climbing wall and cargo net.  Older Brisbane kids might even enjoy racing each other or the clock to complete this fun course.

There’s also a traditional playground on a sand base with swings and a rocket ship shaped climbing structure with 2 slides from the lower platform and a high upper platform that can be accessed via a climbing net.  This play area also has a large climbing net tunnel, see saw, a spinning seat and a car.

spring mountain reserve car toy

The part of the playground closest to the picnic tables has a soft fall base and large half spheres which would allow toddlers to play close to where their adults are sitting.

The fitness area has a variety of exercise equipment and a miniature obstacle and balancing course for younger Brisbane kids which is a great design, allowing closer supervision for little ones while parents work out.

There’s also a half court basketball court and mini football field with goal posts for a range of different ball sports.

The focus on fitness continues with the park playing host to the Greenbank Park Run with distanced tracks and maps permanently in place.

Another wonderful feature of Spring Mountain Reserve is the adjacent waterway which attracts a variety of wildlife.  There are signs of kangaroos in the area as well as pelicans, cormorants, wrens, and the park trees contain nesting boxes to assist the local animals and birds.

Imagination Factor Spring Mountain Reserve

The ninja course invites Brisbane Kids to role-play their very own ninja warrior competition.  The vehicle (car and rocket) themed play equipment encourages a variety of adventures and the net structure could become anything! A spider web, a cave, a space station, a nest – the only limit is imagination.

Symphony Crescent Park

This suburban park in Brisbane’s north, is a wonderful destination for families to enjoy, no matter what time of year. It features a variety of play equipment suitable for all ages, as well as well as picnic facilities and the all-important toilet facilities.

The playground at Symphony Crescent Park is divided into two separate areas, one being tailored to the younger children and the other a ninja warrior obstacle course, suited for the older kids. Next to these areas is a basketball half-court and lots of green space for ball sports, running games or flying a kite.

Symphony Crescent Playground

Playground for children at at Symphony Crescent Park. The first play area you will see as you enter Symphony Crescent Park is the playground designed for younger children.

In June 2022, the play equipment was replaced and is now home to a sturdy fort displaying cute Australian animals. Aside from the fort, there is quite a few standalone pieces of equipment including spinners, flying fox and a large bank of swings, containing toddler, standard and nest swings, as well as the really cool you-and-me swing, where an adult and toddler can sit facing each other while swinging together.

Primary school children will enjoy scaling the rock wall, trip trapping across the wobbly bridge and climbing ladders, while the toddlers can enjoy the many low-to-ground play panels.

Mini traffic tracks weave around the playground providing a great opportunity for little ones to practice riding or scooting while learning the road rules in the process. Pathways, suited for bikes, scooters, prams and those on foot, extend from the park and into the neighbouring areas for those wanting to explore and get their steps up.

The play equipment is partially covered by shade sails and shade from nearby trees and is surrounded by grassed areas, picnic tables and lots of seating on sandstone blocks. Symphony Crescent playground is unfenced, with a road nearby, so extra care and supervision should be exercised.

Park Warrior Obstacle Course

  • Rail climb/slide
  • Jungle bars
  • Fields of rings
  • Cliff hanger
  • The big fling
  • Rock hop
  • The plank

There is even a timer you can use to time yourself completing the course. If you want to check out the equipment before you go then you can do so by visiting https://parkwarrior.com.au/ and selecting ‘Symphony Crescent Park, Burpengary.’

NOTE

Adult supervision is necessary and visitors should follow all rules and instructions carefully to avoid injury.

Imagination Factor

Younger Brisbane Kids can use their imagination to get away from the molten lava or escape giant spiders by climbing their way through all of the awesome play equipment and swinging on the flying fox at Symphony Crescent Park. As always, we love the traffic track and paths for teaching kids about the rules of the road whilst also stretching imaginations so they can become truck drivers, mailmen or racing car drivers.

Accessibility

This unfenced playground has a range of concrete paths which lead from the car-park area to the picnic tables, around the playground and beyond, suitable for wheelchairs and prams. The playground is partially covered by shade sails, and shade from trees, though the park warrior obstacle course is unshaded. Accessible toilet facilities are available and can be accessed by concrete paths.

Guyatt Park- St Lucia Warrior Park https://brisbanekids.com.au/guyatt-park-st-lucia-warrior-park/ https://brisbanekids.com.au/guyatt-park-st-lucia-warrior-park/#respond Mon, 03 Aug 2020 22:18:06 +0000 http://www.brisbanekids.com.au/?p=263217 Featuring Brisbane’s first free outdoor ninja warrior course, two separate playgrounds, lots of green space and picturesque views of the Brisbane River, Guyatt Park in St Lucia is a fantastic park for Brisbane Kids big and small.

St Lucia Warrior Park at Guyatt Park

If your Brisbane Kid thinks they have what it takes to be Australia’s next Ninja Warrior, here is their chance to put their dreams to the test! Featuring 11 obstacles, the carefully planned sequence of obstacles will test any Brisbane Kid’s agility, coordination, problem-solving ability and strength. Just like the show, the course begins with the Quinn Steps which Brisbane Kids will recognise as soon as they arrive. Once the first challenge has been conquered, Brisbane Kids will need to balance their way along the hanging plank, climb along the cargo net, swing on the downhill monkey bars, beat the wall, complete the Field of Rings and climb through the Pole Forrest. The main objective of any challenge is to complete the obstacle without touching the ground.

ninja warrior course in playground

A cool feature is a QR code which can be scanned at the beginning of the course so Brisbane Kids can time their race and see how they compare to others who have logged in and completed the course. The only difference between this course and the real thing is that there is no water should you fall off the obstacle, just rubber soft fall.

guyatt park ninja course

One thing to note is that this course has been designed for Brisbane Kids aged 12 years and over and to be honest, even a fit adult would find the course challenging. Most obstacles are quite high and out of reach of little Brisbane Kids. However, with a little help from an adult and careful supervision at all times, Brisbane Kids will be able to live out their Ninja Warrior dreams!

St Lucia Warrior Park features

  • Quinn Steps
  • The Plank
  • Downward Cargo Net
  • Cliffhanger
  • Inside Out Bars
  • Rock Hop
  • Up and Over Mountain Climb Wall
  • Pole Forest
  • Field of Rings
  • Jungle Bars

Dawn Andrews Park Caboolture https://brisbanekids.com.au/dawn-andrews-park-caboolture/ https://brisbanekids.com.au/dawn-andrews-park-caboolture/#respond Tue, 07 Jul 2020 21:02:21 +0000 https://www.brisbanekids.com.au/?p=237151 A climber’s paradise, this Central Springs Park at Caboolture has numerous opportunities for your Brisbane Kid to test their capabilities and have some fun!

Dawn Andrews Park playground

The first thing the kids will spot at Dawn Andrews Park is the adventure towers, connected by a wobbly bridge with a large tunnel slide. It’s great for climbers challenging them to negotiate the levels of the towers, running back and forth along the wobbly bridge and scaling the cargo nets. Climbers will also delight at the parkour-style climbing cubes, tricky, but not too tricky!

wobbly bridge with railings

For those that love that flying feeling, there are twin flying foxes for the kids to race their mates. Alongside the flying foxes is the swing set with a regular, toddler and basket swing. The large grassy area beside the playground is a fantastic spot to play a game of tag, throw a frisbee, fly a kite or start a game of soccer. It also has a gentle slope, and what kid doesn’t like simply rolling down a hill.

flying fox at central springs park

At the playground, there is also a smaller balancing rocker, a game of connect four, a weather station play board and a basketball half-court. Central Springs is a master-planned community, so there are concrete paths winding around a small wetland area creating a little circuit and scooters and bikes are welcome here. There is also a healthy population of water birds to spot.

Imagination Factor

Certainly aimed at those who love to climb, kids can pretend to be rock climbers scaling a sheer cliff face. Perhaps they want to be ninjas today, test out their strength and capabilities on the parkour-style cubes. Jungle fever may have set in, and they’re swinging on a vine through the jungle like Tarzan, or they simply want to play kings and queens in their tower.

Accessibility

Dawn Andrew Park playground is great for ages three and up. There isn’t a lot for toddlers to play on aside from the swings, the weather station board or play in the grassed area. With assistance, they could negotiate the towers and flying foxes. The playground isn’t ideal for those with special needs. Owing to the layout and size of the playground, it is only partially shaded with woodchip soft fall and is unfenced.

There are concrete paths connecting each of the spaces in the park, however, there is limited on-street parking. Good for a small party, there is a shelter with two tables and chairs with an electric BBQ and water bubbler. Although there are no bathroom facilities.

Hercules Street Park Hamilton https://brisbanekids.com.au/hercules-street-park-at-hamilton/ https://brisbanekids.com.au/hercules-street-park-at-hamilton/#respond Thu, 02 Jul 2020 21:41:37 +0000 http://www.brisbanekids.com.au/?p=256193 Hercules Street Park is not like anything we’ve seen before. It is a Brisbane playground creation that is certainly going to burn up a lot of energy. With its huge rubberised mound, an abundance of cargo netting and mega slides, it’s an active kid’s dream come true.

Hercules Street playground

It’s hard to pick one standout feature of this playground. It is all fantastic tactile, agility testing, fast pace type play.

The first thing you will notice (apart from the slides) is the unique plastic mound construction that sits atop 3 massive tunnels. Up the sides of the mound, there are numerous climbing apparatuses to climb even further from stairs to nets or just via the plastic mounds themselves.

hercules street park

smaller slide at hercules park

The mound is also connected to the general playground structure and its maze of cargo netting. The upper level offers more agility and climbing opportunities and a large metal spiral slide leads back to the ground.

netting at hercules street playground

On the lower level of the metal structure is a chalkboard (you will need to pack your own chalk and duster), hammocks for some quiet time, basket swing and yep, more cargo netting to climb.

The water play area

After all that climbing, running and fast-paced activity, there is also a water play area. It is a fairly simple setup, some water jets spraying down from above and mist spraying from below. Simple and cooling which is perfect for a hot summer’s day.

A large grassy area separates the main playground with a ball game area. There is a bounce wall which has a half-court basketball court, a wall with targets, painted on wickets and tennis markings. Next to the bounce wall is a table tennis table (BYO bats and balls) and exercise equipment. Surrounding the grass field is a lovely smooth path, great for scooters!

  • Swings – toddler, normal and basket

  • Tunnels

Imagination Factor

The playground doesn’t have a strong theme, although it does have a slightly industrial feel. It’s been designed to get kids moving, climbing, jumping, crawling and running. It’s perfect for a game of tag, obstacle courses, ninjas and other physical challenge type games.

hercules park hamilton

Accessibility

While this is a fantastic playground it does have a few accessibility drawbacks. Being in a high-density area there is limited street car parking, and a very limited off-street carpark. This carpark is accessed by turning off Kingsford Smith Drive onto Northshore drive only. There is no right turn into the carpark. If parking on the street, be careful of yellow lines and signage regarding time limits. Be prepared to walk a short distance.

The play area is partially shaded, however it does get warm during peak UV times. It would be best visited early in the morning or later in the day. Owing to the large scale of the playground it can be quite difficult to keep an eye on multiple children, however, it is fenced along the roadside.

The waterplay is integrated with the play space and so even if you have no intention of letting your children get wet, it may be inevitable. Wet children then play on the play equipment, which then makes the playground damp. There is little for kids with special needs to play on, a more inclusive playground in this area would be New Farm Park at New Farm. It’s not especially catering for toddlers, although there is enough to keep them occupied if they are accompanying older siblings. A better playground suited exclusively for toddlers would be Ascot Playground at Ascot.

The location of this playground makes it a great stop-off point for outings to Eat Street Markets, Portside at Hamilton or China Town. It’s also convenient to Brisbane Airport for some plane spotting.

Hercules Park is located on 40 Remora Rd, Hamilton QLD 4007 but we highly advise reading our information regarding accessibility before you go

While it’s not the most extensive complex, there’s still a variety of obstacles, including:

  • a 1.2m high quarter pipe with hips and bowl pocket
  • a 0.5m high pimple
  • a 1.4m high quarter pipe
  • a 1.5m high quarter pipe
  • a skate rail

Wynnum Skate Park

The range of different features and the amount of space make for a fun experience for skateboards, scooters, bikes, rollerblades or skates. Kids experimenting with parkour and testing their climbing skills will also enjoy this park.  These obstacles are spread out so there are opportunities for many people to be using the park at once without colliding.

The super-smooth surface means that if someone does take a tumble, they’re more likely to slide than take off any skin. There is usually a broad mix of ages at this park, from toddlers through to adults, but most visitors are respectful of the other park visitors and turn-taking and good manners are the norm. Beginners will enjoy the thrill of testing their skills on smooth slopes and there are lots of places for more experienced riders to perform tricks.

Redcliffe Parkour Park https://brisbanekids.com.au/redcliffe-parkour-park/ https://brisbanekids.com.au/redcliffe-parkour-park/#comments Sun, 27 May 2018 01:14:33 +0000 https://brisbanekids.com.au/?p=213761 Redcliffe Parkour Park is situated off Hornibrook Esplanade on Victoria Avenue, Woody Point.  It is one of only a few purpose-built parkour parks in the wider Brisbane area.

Parkour Park in Redcliffe

This intriguing playground has 12 different challenges to tackle, including an angled wall, vault bars, boulders, modular block walls, balance beams, climbing frames and scalable poles. The idea of parkour is for the enthusiast to make their way around an area in the quickest, most efficient way possible. This is done by running, jumping, climbing, rolling, vaulting and leaping any obstacles in your way. There is supposed to be freedom of movement, so you will find there is no one way to do an activity, no order and no set direction. There really are no limits.

You won’t find the traditional slides or swings here and at first it can be confusing as to how to use the space as it seems quite unfamiliar. However, the obstacles do flow onto each other and once imagination and possibility kick in, the kids will be unstoppable.

Safety Considerations

Suitable for beginner to expert skill levels and all age groups, you can use the Redcliffe Parkour Park course to suit your own abilities. Parents can assist smaller children to do the balance beams, and more capable children will enjoy challenging themselves on the modular walls. That said, older children will likely get more out of the park in the way that it is intended to be used than the little ones. Additionally, if you are more serious about Parkour you will want to find a time of day that is less busy so you can get a flow of movement.
