Museums and Galleries
Brisbane is so lucky to have many child-friendly art galleries and free museums that are awesome for kids. The best thing about the Brisbane culture scene is that most exhibitions for kids seem to be free or low cost and are very hands on (as they should be). Exhibitions vary from the very permanent through to those that come to our city for just a short time. Public transport is close by to all the inner city galleries and museums and parking fairly low cost considering its inner city location.
Enjoying Museums and Galleries in Brisbane with Kids
We want to give you our top tips for enjoying the cultural scene with your kids. It’s not like an indoor fun centre, when you can simply walk in and let them run wild or like a movie where you can simply walk along silently… You need to be an active participant.
The great thing about visiting galleries and museums is that every time you visit you will get something new out of the experience, as will your child. As their interest change, and as they grow, they will find different places in the museums and galleries interesting.
If you can, don’t rush through the entire Queensland Museum in one day, explore one floor and return on another day to visit the next. Don’t sit back in the art activities at the Gallery of Modern Art, GET INVOLVED.
Ask them what they think of a certain piece of art, ask them “what made them come to that conclusion”- encourage their creative thinking. AND if you can, when you head home extend any ideas they mentioned, or art methods you saw, to make the most of your visit.
