Towri Growers Market

Drinks stall at Towri Growers Market.

Located around an hour’s drive from Brisbane at Allenview. The Towri property consists of 300 acres of scenic rural land. In this peaceful country location, a group of local Scenic Rim farmers come together for the Towri Growers Market on the first Saturday of the month.

Suppose your family needs an escape from the city or the suburbs. In that case, this lovely market is more like a picnic destination than a farmer’s market.

Two chairs and a table at Towri Growers Market.

In fact, bringing a picnic blanket is a great idea, but if you forget yours, grab one from the basket near the entry as the wide open lawn invites you to take a seat and enjoy the cruisey sound of live music.

Several quaint tables and chairs, most under shade umbrellas, are provided throughout the garden.

At the market, you can purchase dairy products, eggs, vegetables, honey, sheep’s cheese, and meat directly from the farmers. A collection of local makers also offers an assortment of beautiful handmade items.

Lawn games are placed around the garden to entertain the kids. There is also a pen of sheep and a few baby goats ready to receive gentle pats. Sheep milking demonstrations also occur at 10 am and 1 pm.

The Towri Growers Market is ideal for a lazy brunch on a sunny Saturday. Coffee and wine can both be purchased. Please drink responsibly and ensure a designated driver is present.

As a boutique market with only a handful of vendors, the choice of food is limited, and outside food is prohibited.

Accessibility at Towri Growers Market

Welcome sign at Towri Growers Market.

Towri Sheep Cheeses is a country property, and movement between some of the vendor’s stalls occurs without paved walkways. The land is mostly flat and covered with grass. Paved walkways connect the main structure to the large stall toilets.

The host advises that guests with wheelchairs visit the property, but the toilets are not wheelchair approved. Please get in touch with the Towri Sheep Cheeses directly to discuss any concerns.

Towri Growers Market Features

  • Picturesque country location
  • Toilets – large but not wheelchair approved
  • Vast lawns to picnic on
  • Lawn games
  • Coffee van
  • Food vendors
  • Farm produce sold by the farmers
  • Local makers
  • Live music
  • Wine tasting and purchase
  • Paddock parking
  • Animals to pat
  • Sheep Milking Demonstrations at 10 am and 1 pm

Why not turn your visit to the Towri Grower’s Markets into a fun-filled Saturday by visiting an epic playground on your way home? Flagstone Adventure Park or for the warmer weather Flagstone Water Park are incredible locations to spend time outdoors playing and relaxing.

What We Thought About Towri Growers Market

A child playing connect four outdoors at Towri Growers Market.

We had a pleasurable experience on our visit to the Towri Growers Market. The warm sun, fresh air and wide open spaces were very calming.

My little Brisbane Kid enjoyed frolicking in the garden and fooling around with the lawn games. His highlight, however, was devouring an ice cream purchased directly from the dairy farmers. I enjoyed one as well!

Towri Growers Market Details

The Towri Growers Markets takes place on the first Saturday of every month between 9am and 2pm.

Entry costs $5 per person, though children three and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online via Humanitix, which incurs a transaction fee.

How to Get to Tori Growers Market

The Towri Growers Market can be found at Towri Sheep Cheesery, 206 Saville Road, Allenview.

Located close to the city, at Northey Street City Farm you’ll find an organic farmers market, a nature-based playgroup, a community-based urban permaculture farm and a unique plant nursery.

Northey Street Organic Farmers Market

Market stalls at Northey Street Park.

On Sunday mornings, from 6am to 11am, the carpark at Northey Street farm turns into a bustling organic farmers market. Here you’ll be able to meet the farmers and enjoy fresh produce direct from their farms. Find everything food related from fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs to eggs, meats and poultry. There are also offerings of fermented delights like kombucha, kefir, kimchi, and much more. A collection of gorgeous treasures, like woollen finger puppets or organic cotton baby wear, is also available from ethical producers.

The Permaculture Farm and Nursery

Here is a community garden with a strong interest in ethical practices and sustainability. As you wander through the nursery, taking note of the interesting food-producing plants and medicinal herbs, you’ll discover the community here is keen to help you grow fresh, natural food at home.

Community gardens at Northey Street Park.

At the rambling beds of the Northey Street Community Garden veggies, herbs and flowers spill out of the allotments. It is here people who don’t have access to a garden, but want to grow their own organic food, can hire a plot. In this space, you can see the care and commitment to natural permaculture practices valued by the community.

Medicinal herbs at Northey Street Park.

Northey Street City Farm also holds various workshops and courses, including an Earth Kids school holiday program and an Earth Kids Homeschool program, to develop everyone’s understanding and love of growing edible plants. Learn skills from worm farming to permaculture and composting.

Northey Street Playgroup

A sandpit with a few sand toys at Northey Street Park.

A free outdoor playgroup runs three times a week. This casual gathering allows families to meet near the community garden and participate in a range of ‘nature smart’ activities using found clay and natural materials.

Children are gently guided to explore Earth Arts. There are opportunities for painting on foraged materials with clay-based paints in natural hues. Brave parents may even agree to have their faces decorated with the natural colours; it’s quite the makeover! If sculpture is more to your liking, use some clay to create a small bowl or figurine.

Swing sets at Northey Street Park.

The playgroup has a collection of donated and well-loved toys including musical instruments, with several of them made from recycled materials. Children can discover sand pits with diggers, cubby houses, a tyre swing, rope swing and an open space for flying frisbees or rolling enormous hula hoops.

A man cooking popcorn over a little fire at Northey Street Park.

On most occasions, Bob, who’s been volunteering at the playgroup for many years, will ask the children to forage for sticks before cooking up some popcorn in a cast iron pot over a small fire.

Playgroup runs on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm and on Sunday mornings from 7 am while the markets are taking place.

NB. Playgroup occurs in an unfenced area.

Accessibility

There are accessible toilets at this venue. Most of the ground is relatively flat but unpaved and contains various surfaces such as grass, dirt and gravel.

Family Fun At Eat Street Markets at Hamilton Northshore https://brisbanekids.com.au/eat-street-markets-northshore-hamilton/ https://brisbanekids.com.au/eat-street-markets-northshore-hamilton/#respond Fri, 19 May 2023 22:20:58 +0000 http://brisbanekids.com.au/?p=316386 Hidden inside the vibrant shipping container city of Eat Street Northshore is a foodie heaven filled with culinary delights from across the world and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Located in Hamilton, this Brisbane landmark comes alive every Friday to Sunday where twinkling lights, enticing aromas and groovy music create an electric atmosphere that’ll keep you buzzing throughout the night.

Eat Street Markets for families

eat street markets northshore, brisbane queensland.

Over the past 10 years Eat Street Northshore has grown exponentially from humble beginnings to cementing itself as a Brisbane institution. It has become a go to destination for special occasions, first dates, out of town visitors and those weekend nights when you just don’t feel like cooking.

Originally what was only a dozen or so shipping containers turned eateries has now transformed into a mecca of over 70 speciality mini restaurants, bars, produce stores and two stages for live entertainment. This dazzling, riverside space is full of photo opportunities with bright neon signs of rainbows and angel wings giving it a real festival feel.

main seating hall at eat street markets.

Most recognisable of all is the trademark “EAT” sign at the main entry which guarantees you’ve arrived at the right place. Eat Street is truly a feast for the senses with the artistic flair and a hint of romance that makes it feel more special than your usual market fare.

Food and Drink options

dessert at eat street.

Diners are absolutely spoilt for choice at Eat Street Northshore with food offerings from six of the seven continents. Luckily for visitors, the shipping container restaurants are mainly organised into categories with designated sections for American diner meals, Asian street food delicacies and seafood selections.

The fairy light lit main hall also contains an eclectic mix of food from juicy burgers and smoked ribs to spicy Mexican, curries, pizza and healthy salads.

You’ll want to leave room for dessert as Kombi Alley serves up the craziest sweet treats and most “instagrammable” creations.

There is an abundance of outdoor and undercover seating options to choose from depending on the weather and a couple of bars for the grown-ups to enjoy.

For the kids

Eat Street Northshore is a great place to take the kids with colour, sound and excitement to be found around every corner from the sparkling lights to energetic live performers. There is plenty on offer for the kids including a toy store, fairy floss making demonstrations and some of the food venders have meals specifically created for the littlest diners.

Upon entry at the main gate, you’ll also find a small games arcade with a variety of machines for young and old players. Even your fur kids can come along for the night provided they are people-friendly and kept on a leash. While you’re in the area there’s also the fantastic, industrial style Hercules Street Park about 3 minutes up the road which is absolutely worth a visit.

Admission and Accessibility

The markets are open on Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 10pm and Sunday from 4pm to 9pm.

There’s a small entry fee of $6 per person with children under 13 and carers of persons with a disability free of charge. The space is well catered to prams and wheelchairs with wide, sealed pathways although these do get very busy during peak times.

There are two disabled toilet facilities with baby change tables and a portable wheelchair ramp if required.

You shouldn’t have any problems finding a car park with over 1,400 free parking spaces located on site which is very convenient especially when travelling with young children on board. Public transport is another good option with bus stop and CityCat terminals only a short walking distance away.

Eat Street Markets are located in the same suburb as Hercules Street Park Hamilton, perfect for a pre-markets playdate

What We Thought of Eat Street Markets

Eat Street Northshore is a must see Brisbane attraction with its carnival vibe, delicious food and magical photo opportunities. Make sure you come with big appetites, room for dessert and maybe a jumper for those chilly winter nights along the river. The food is a little bit more expensive than your usual cafe or food truck which could be expected from this boutique market setting. Overall, we think Eat Street is a great excuse to keep the kids up past their bedtime to enjoy a whole lot of market magic and fun.

Carseldine Markets | Reviewed https://brisbanekids.com.au/carseldine-markets-reviewed/ https://brisbanekids.com.au/carseldine-markets-reviewed/#respond Fri, 14 Jun 2019 21:34:30 +0000 http://www.brisbanekids.com.au/?p=243618 As the sun rises on Saturday morning over the former QUT  building at Carseldine, the grounds are abuzz with activity: there’s the sounds of strumming musicians, the smell of freshly brewed coffee and an eye-popping array of colourful market stalls spilling over with fruit and vegetables, flowers, homemade food and handcrafted artworks.

The first wave of patrons are usually the early birds eager to purchase their week’s groceries, direct from the farmers, and to enjoy a spot of breakfast. Not far behind them are the weary parents whose children got up with the sparrows, and are now making a beeline for the face painting or balloon art stalls. And next come those that are being walked by their enthusiastic dogs, no doubt following their noses to their favourite brunch stall.

The Carseldine Farmers and Artisan Markets, operating every Saturday morning, really have something for everyone and make a great family morning out.

Family activities at Carseldine Markets

The Carseldine Markets are designed with families in mind, and there is plenty to keep kids busy, including face-painting, a petting zoo, a jumping castle, live music and even a caricature artist. The markets are free to enter, and there is plenty of on-site, free parking. There’s room to wield a pram and kids will love to help choose fresh seasonal produce, sample some foodie delights, and check out the clever crafts for sale.

It’s also the perfect place to find a gift for a hard-to-buy-for person in your life, including gifts for children. Enjoying brunch in the sunny outdoor eating area is also a real treat – the only problem will be deciding what to have! Shaded tables and chairs are available, or you can spread out in the grassed area. And don’t forget that your four-legged family member is also welcome, on a leash.

Shop locally at Carseldine Markets

At the Carseldine Farmers & Artisan Markets, there is a real emphasis on supporting local growers, farmers and businesses from around South East Queensland. The wide range of produce available is in season locally, meaning it’s fresher, more flavourful and more nutrient dense because it hasn’t been transported over long distances or been left sitting on supermarket shelves.

Most of the traditional and gourmet foods are made on the spot, and you can chat with the stall holders about their wares – many of whom are passionate farmers, cooks, chefs, designers, bakers, baristas and artists, all wanting to share their skills. You’ll find everything from cupcakes to bath bombs, doggy doughnuts to honey and everything in between!

Remember to bring your reusable shopping bags or a pull along shopping wagon to hold your goods as you make your way around the stalls. Those jars of homemade rosella jam and mango chutney are quite heavy…

Just down the road from the markets is The Trellis at Carseldine, and close by, you can find The Green Playground.

Open every Saturday from 6 am until 12 pm, the Carseldine Farmers & Artisan Markets are the perfect day out, packed with excitement for little and big kids alike. The markets are located on the old QUT Carseldine Campus, 532 Beams Road, Carseldine. For more market fun, check out our complete list of Brisbane markets.

Produce and Products

Brisbane locals love to come to these markets for the produce such as fruit and vegetables, which are farm fresh, super tasty and usually longer lasting than their supermarket counterparts.

The markets offer way more than just groceries though. You can find quality arts and crafts, handmade items and jewellery. There’s clothing and children’s toys, as well as exotic imports.

You can also enjoy lovely refreshments at the markets, including food, drinks and ethnic food specialities.

Family Entertainment While You Shop

This great market offers a range of great entertainment for adults and children. There is live music to keep market goers entertained as they shop. The musicians always put on a good show and with their timeless tunes creating a lively and exciting atmosphere.

There are also often several talented buskers at the markets, showing off their skills or entertaining the crowds.

In the centre of this wonderful Brisbane market you will also come across Bee Gees Way, a fascinating laneway that links Redcliffe Parade with Sutton Street. This unique walkway was designed in collaboration with Barry Gibb and commemorates the career of the trio of Gibb brothers who formed the pop group and once lived in Redcliffe. This outdoor tribute features photographs, artwork, album covers and more. There are also life-sized statues of the Bee Gees, plus a video screen playing interviews, Bee Gees songs and other footage. Come here in the evening, and you can experience a light show set to the music of the Bee Gees’ greatest hits, every half hour from 7pm till 9.30pm.

Special Market Events

The Redcliffe Markets also host special events throughout the year. Follow their Facebook page or visit https://redcliffemarkets.com.au/ to keep up to date with the latest event news.

Pet-friendly Markets

For families with fur babies, it’s great to know Redcliffe Markets are pet friendly. However, as the roads and pavements can get very hot under little paws on sunny days, please consider this before deciding whether or not to bring your dog along. In addition, following council laws – all pets must be kept on a lead and owners must clean up after them.

Getting to Redcliffe Markets

The Redcliffe Markets are located on Redcliffe Parade in Redcliffe. There are car parks nearby, and street parking is also available. Please note that Redcliffe Parade itself is closed on market days to make space for this lovely community event.
