Area 51 Brisbane – Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just turn up and purchase tickets at the counter? Due to some sold out sessions, you are highly encouraged to book online, rather than walk in, to avoid disappointment.

Do adults/carers/parents need to purchase tickets? Adults who are spectators or non-participants are free, whilst adults who wish to play on the equipment will require a ticket.

I’m a companion of a customer with special needs, do I need to purchase a ticket? Companions of our customers with special needs, will receive a complimentary ticket.

Does Area 51 Brisbane offer refunds? All Bookings are non-refundable. Please refer to their terms and conditions for more info.

Can I reserve a table for my family or friends? Yes. Area 51 Brisbane has three large round banquet tables that can be reserved inside. The banquet tables seat 10 people and have a minimum requirement of $100 on platters per table. These must be booked and paid for 7 days prior to your booking. The general tables inside Area 51 cannot be booked and are on a first in first serve basis.

Can we bring in our water bottles? Yes. Refillable water bottles are permitted inside Area 51. They also have a water fountain located near the bathrooms for patron use.

Can I hire out the entire venue? Yes you can. Please head to https://www.area51bne.com/events/ for further details.

Can I wear my own grip socks?  No. Area 51 Grip socks are mandatory. If you have previously purchased a pair from Area 51, you can re-use these. You do not need to purchase a new pair every time you visit.

Do I have to sign a waiver? Yes. Area 51, is dedicated to creating a safe environment for participants. However, as indoor play areas and associated events are inherently dangerous, it is their requirement that all participants sign our waiver. Participants under the age of 18 must have the waiver filled out by their parent or legal guardian.

No, this isn’t the Rock Climbing that you’re thinking of, adrenaline junkies scaling mountains using little to no ropes.

With the existence of indoor climbing gyms, rock climbing is no longer restricted to those who own their own rope, harness and helmet. Everyone can have a go at the walls in a safe, fun, and versatile environment.

In the climbing gym, climbing can be a fun hobby or a competitive sport, slow and steady or jump after jump, a personal journey or a social activity. Whatever it is that everyone, from pre-schoolers to seniors, is looking for, they can find it in rock climbing.

Indoor Rockclimbing perfect for kids!

Not only is climbing a great physical exercise for kids, developing their strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. It’s a great confidence builder!

It’s all about getting back on the wall after falling and trying again! About setting goals with themselves and finding the motivation to keep climbing higher and higher, until they’ve reached the highest point and can see the world (and their family) from heights they’ve never seen before.

Not too sure how indoor rock climbing works?

Here’s how it is.

At indoor gyms, like Crank Indoor Rock Climbing, climbs are designed as puzzles on a wall. They need solving using different hold combinations and movement sequences (it’s a great mental sport!).

These climbs are set using coloured plastic holds, so as climbers are scaling the wall, they use only a certain colour for their hands and feet. The variety of angles, corners and structures along the walls keeps things interesting, and there are even designated kids’ sections (think ladders and big, easy to grip handles).

Indoor Rockclimbing Skills

In the indoor gym, the three options for climbing are rope climbing, auto belays, and bouldering.

Rope climbing means that kids can harness their natural curiosity and scale 7-10 metre walls, kept safe by the rope, and the belayer, the person who holds on to the rope. This form of climbing is a great family activity, and perfect for building trust and communication. Children will have to communicate with their belayer when they’re ready to start climbing or want to come down and learn to trust that their belayer has a firm grip on the rope.

Auto belays allow climbers to climb solo without the need of belaying assistance; a retracting system at the top of the wall means the rope is automatically tightened against climbers and lets climbers down whenever they want. Meaning parents can choose to relax and watch their children explore new heights or race their young ones up the wall.

And bouldering is no hassle climbing, no gear required (save for chalk and shoes). The challenge is to climb short but tricky climbs at a low height, with a 16-inch crash pad underneath you. The best part about this form of climbing is that you can climb solo, or you can climb with a group of friends and family! The walls are so low that they can yell out advice and encouragement, or just egg you on! Hijinx Hotel is made up of 10 challenge rooms. The rooms are magical, immersive, and a WHOLE lot of FUN!

Each challenge room at Hijinx Hotel Chermside draws from nostalgia and is uniquely designed for between two and six players to work together to complete challenges in a four-minute window to score points on a leaderboard. 

Unlike an escape room, a challenge room has a single objective (such as remembering song patterns on a giant piano, solving word scrambles, or throwing a basketball through a hoop) that gradually becomes more difficult as your time ticks down. Your team will score a point every time you complete the objective before moving on to the next challenge. 

The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible in a set time period and you can leave at any time you please (you just won’t score as many points!). Points scored in each room will be combined to create your total score. 

At the end of your 5 room challenge, your total score will be displayed on the leaderboard and the group with the highest score wins!

How to play Laser Tag

In Laser Tag, players are kitted out with computerised vests and handheld ‘phasers’ and briefed at the beginning of each mission. The game is a high tech adventure in which players zap opponents, targets and base stations within the darkened playing arena. The multi-level arena is decked out with black lights, fluorescent paints, lasers and mist to create a futuristic atmosphere. No contact is required for the sport, with competitor’s packs deactivating for a short time when they have been ‘tagged’. At the end of the game, scores are displayed on a scoreboard for players
to track their play. Each game is approximately 10 minutes in duration.

Laser tag is a genuine sport that is perfect to get kids out from in front of their TV-based computer games and into an active game scenario with real people. Suited to all ages, but recommended to those over 5 years of age due to the weight of the pack, Laser tag is a safe non-contact sport that will get players physically active. Played as either an individual or a team, Laser Tag has up to 8 coloured teams, 8 base stations for bonus points and 60 targets for earning special abilities in the game.
