Due to unknown circumstances, The Trellis has closed indefinitely
From the owners of the hugely popular The Nurso in Chandler, comes The Trellis on Brisbane’s north side. Standing on the former site of Eden Garden Centre, The Trellis now calls the sprawling space on Gympie Road, Carseldine home and is set to become just as popular as its sister site.
Aside from offering various garden supplies, plants and gorgeous homewares, The Trellis also has an al fresco café and play space for children. You may even see the resident water dragons resting in the sun or scurrying under the tables.
Regular weekday activities, school holiday sessions and live music on weekends, entertains visitors while they enjoy a drink and sample some of the juicy burgers on offer. This is a dog-friendly cafe (assuming they are on leash and well behaved).
Fun Activities for Kids at The Trellis
Play Area
A small playground sits between the café seating area and garden centre, featuring a slide and a little cubby house. Little tots can hop on the trikes and zoom around the play area while the adults relax and have a coffee. Bean bags, toy dinosaurs and other play items can also be found in the play area.
Kids Classes
Casual classes aimed at children are held near the café area every day of the week, including the weekends. Messy and sensory play is available for children aged 6 months – 5 years, while box car making and splatter painting is suitable for children 2 – 5 years of age. Older children, 6 – 11-years of age are catered for during the weekend classes. A small fee applies. Class details and bookings can be made online at The Trellis.
School Holiday Activities
School holiday activities are offered and will surely entertain and amuse your Brisbane Kids, with a heavy emphasis on nature crafts using various recyclable and natural materials. A fee also applies for these activities. Check The Trellis social media page or website for further details and bookings.
Terrarium Train
Perfect for older children, adults or perhaps a special activity or birthday party treat, is the unique Terrarium Train. The Terrarium Train is just like a sushi train, though instead of eating what’s on the plates that zoom around before your eyes, you select components to create your very own terrarium. Pricing and inclusions do vary, so chat to the friendly staff or head in-store for details.
Eating at The Trellis
Grabbing a casual drink and bite to eat is easy at The Trellis, especially if you have little ones in tow. Seating is outdoors, but undercover and quite spacious, so finding your own spot is doable. Those with children tend to gravitate toward the play area, for obvious reasons, with many highchairs on offer for the littlest family members.
A small kids menu offers favourites like chicken tenders, beef burgers, chicken burger plus a vegetarian option, starting at just $10. For the adults, burgers are the main drawcard, as are favourites such as loaded fries, onion rings and chicken wings. Hot and cold drinks can also be purchased.
For a special treat a variety of ice-cream is available, which is popular, especially on a hot day.
Shopping at The Trellis
While shopping may not be your child’s favourite pastime, they may enjoy having a quick wander around the garden centre to see what cute items are available for purchase. There are kids gardening equipment, puzzles, gnomes, garden statues, plants and more. The adults will also enjoy checking out the indoor and outdoor plants, pots and garden equipment.
Accessibility at The Trellis
As you enter The Trellis off Gympie Road you will drive straight into the large car park, which is free for all customers to use. Access to the café and play area is through the main entrance and out the back. Flat pathways, suitable for prams and mobility aides can be found throughout The Trellis.
An accessible toilet containing a change table, is available for visiting customers.
Picnic table seating, chairs, tables and high-chairs are available, as is a small couch area and high bench seating. Seating is undercover, though not completely out of the elements if it is very windy or rainy.
The Trellis can be found at 1657 Gympie Road, Carseldine.
