  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Places for Kids to Eat at South Bank

Last updated: August 9, 2023

South Bank, is our beautiful inner-city oasis and offers so much for Brisbane Kids and their families to enjoy. Making a full day of it is easy to do, with a variety of activities on offer. If you are planning a visit to South Bank, knowing the best places for kids to eat is essential.

Aside from the activities within South Bank itself, you are also only minutes from the Queensland Museum, The Gallery of Modern Art and the State Library of Queensland. If you are planning a day trip to South Bank then be sure to check out our list below to discover some of the best places for kids to eat at South Bank.

Places for Kids to Eat at South Bank

The below list features child-friendly options with kids menus which cater specifically for our smallest family members.

Brooklyn Depot

Address: B8-B9, 168 Grey Street, South Brisbane

Most people flock to Brooklyn Depot  for their cool American vibe and handcrafted burgers. With names such as Fuhgeddaboudit, Queenslander, The Dubya and Chicky Babe burger, there is bound to be something to tantalise everyone’s taste buds.

If burgers aren’t your thing, then why not try the hot dogs, ribs, mac and cheese, chicken wings, sweet potato fries or the ever-popular onion rings. Kids meals are available for the under 12’s, including options such as cheeseburger, hot dog, chicken tenders or mac and cheese. As a bonus, every kids meal comes with fries, a drink and a kids pack to keep the little ones entertained.

Denim Co. Cafe

Address: 9a Little Stanley Street, South Brisbane

Serving all-day breakfast (until 3pm), coffee, lunch and sweet treats, a visit to Denim Co. will provide families with the added fuel they need to explore South Bank. Popular menu items include peanut butter Italian hot chocolate, loaded thick shakes, Italian peach sponge cake and the all-important gelato. So, whether you are grabbing a quick snack to go, or sitting down to rest and enjoy a meal, be sure to stop by this Little Stanley Street icon.

Grill’d

Address: 167 Grey Street, South Brisbane

Grill’d market themselves as being the healthy and nutritional burger option and their impressive menu will no doubt have the whole family ravenous at a glance.  Whilst their menu is obviously overflowing with burger, sliders and salad options for adults, they also cater extremely well for the smaller members of the family, with two different kids menus.  Mini Me packs are ideal for kids aged 7 and under, with options such as mini chicken, beef or veggie burger or chicken bites.  These meals are conveniently packaged in a small cardboard box and come with chips and a juice or water.  Older children (aged 8 – 11), can enjoy the slightly larger ‘dynamic’ chicken, beef or veggie burgers and a side of chips.

Guzman Y Gomez

Address: 179 Grey Street, South Brisbane

Who doesn’t love tacos? Whether you are soft or hard taco fan, these pockets of goodness when filled with chicken, beef, beans, salad or guacamole are just gifts of joy. The whole family is catered for at Guzman Y Gomez. Children are well looked after with the kids range including Little G Burritos, Kid’s Nachos and Little G’s tacos. You can even indulge in breakfast at the South Bank Guzman Y Gomez, starting the day with a breakfast burrito, scrambled eggs, breakfast taco or churro toast. Yummo!

Max Brenner

Address: Stanley Street Plaza, South Bank

If the adults are after a coffee and the kids want a sweet treat, then look no further than Max Brenner’s. Located just a stone’s throw from Street’s Beach, at Max Brenner’s you will find crepes, chocolate dips, souffle, sundaes, chocolate fondue and even decadent sweet pizzas. Of course, there is also a wide range of beverages including delectable hot chocolates, coffee, milkshakes, frappes, tea, and babycinos for the littlest family members.

Momo Chicken

Address: 7 Little Stanley Street, South Brisbane

Lovers of chicken will adore Momo Chicken, serving delicious, crispy Korean fried chicken – imagine snacking on candy chicken or sweet honey chicken – yummo! There are also burgers, Korean pancakes, and a range of other tasty treats to satisfy your hunger. You can even wash it down with an Oreo milkshake!

The Plough Inn

Address: 29 Stanley Street Plaza, South Bank

This modern-day pub, right in the heart of South Bank, has a lively atmosphere with visitors able to catch sport on the big screen or live music seven days a week. The outdoor seating area at The Plough Inn is shady and perfect for families (it is even pet-friendly). A kid’s menu is available and features classic items such as pizza, nuggets, pasta, fish or chicken. The kids will be happy when all kid’s meals come with a drink and ice-cream on a stick, which is ideal after a busy day at South Bank.

The Ship Inn

Address: Corner Stanley and Sidon Streets, South Brisbane

If it is old-fashioned pub food you are after then head to The Ship Inn. Built in 1864, this historic pub features traditional pub fare, small meals and a dedicated kids menu for the under 12’s. Located down the quieter end of South Bank, it is well worth the short walk to experience the tasty food.

Southbeach

Address: Shop 30aa, 153 Stanley Street Plaza, South Brisbane

If you’re planning a day at the South Bank lagoon then Southbeach may be one of the best spots to check out when a child’s tummy rumbling.  As kids will usually swim until they are almost starving having an eatery which caters for kids (literally upstairs from Streets Beach) is an absolute godsend.

With a vast breakfast and main menu offering everything from steaks, salads, pasta, pizzas, seafood and more, you will be hard pressed not to find something to suit even the pickiest of eaters.  Their kid’s menu is just as substantial and there are highchairs for the little ones.

Zeus Street Greek

Address: 13/14 Little Stanley Street, South Brisbane

If, like me, your kids love a bit of Greek fare then you are not going to want to go past Zeus Street Greek.  Whilst you can get lost in their tempting menu which includes traditional souvlas including lamb, chicken, pork and halloumi, schnitzels, salads, sides, and desserts, the kids will also be well looked after.

The kid’s menu at Zeus offers the perfectly sized mini pitas or kids-sized schnitzel tenderloins (chicken or calamari) with all options including a side of chips and a juice.

Picnic with a View

While the kids will love visiting and eating at the above venues, I still think you can’t go past an old-fashioned picnic on the lawn.  South Bank is literally rolling with green lawns and with a beautiful riverside and city view, you really can’t go wrong laying a large blanket down and sprawling yourselves on top of it.

If you are organised, you can pack your own picnic to bring or have a bbq, but there are also plenty of quick takeaway options (most of the above venue do takeaway).

You can purchase a variety of food from the food-court type area just behind the Riverside Green Playground, which can be enjoyed on the provided tables or on your picnic rug.  On offer is fish and chips, burgers, pizzas, kebabs, sandwiches and ice-cream.

The best part?  It doesn’t require any real table manners and the kids can play on the grass as soon as they are done, while the adults can relax a little while longer.

Things to keep in mind

Whilst the above venues offer kids menus which you know will cater specifically for a child’s size appetite, there are so many other fantastic restaurants and cafes in South Bank that you should check out as well.

Most restaurants will let you know which portions suit smaller people and some will even make child-size meals, if asked.

Whether it is a full-blown kid’s meal with the works or some hot chips and sauce on a blanket – your kids will be well fed and spoilt for choice when it comes to eating at South Bank in Brisbane.

Are there any new places to eat with kids at South Bank we need to add to our list? If there is just add them in the comments below.
