For a morning of thrills and excitement, the Pine Rivers BMX track is well worth the visit. Located in England Park on Leitchs Road at Brendale, it is a fantastic track for various ages and skill levels. Spend the morning getting active with the kids at this north side park – it is the perfect place to give your budding BMX bandit a go!
In 2008 BMX was included in as an Olympic sport, and is considered a very family friendly activity. That said, you don’t need to have great skill to enjoy this track, BMX is a fantastic hobby for boys and girls alike, even mum and dad can give it a go! At the end of your session (if you can drag them away) you’ll have a happy, dusty and worn out Brisbane Kid. Just try wiping the smile from their face!
The Pine Rivers BMX Track
Beginning at the starting hill, the starting gate is made from a metal mesh and can only to be operated by club officials. Once you’re flying down the hill there are various grades and types of hills; some are not for the faint-hearted, while others are suitable for the novice rider. The track is mostly dirt, though there are bitumen berms (corners). When your Brisbane Kid turns for the final straight, watch them power towards the end, complete with a proper finish line. Pack the camera for a photo finish!
Planning your visit
The Pine Rivers BMX Track is maintained by Pine Rivers BMX Club. The club runs lessons for all levels of experience, as well as hosts races, working bees and other events. Outside of the times when these events are taking place, the general public may access the track. The full schedule is published on the Pine Rivers BMX Club Facebook page each week, so make sure you check it out before leaving home to avoid disappointment. The track is closed during inclement weather to protect the track surface and for public safety, so please also consider this before making the trip.
Spills are inevitable, so try to dress appropriately – long trousers and shirts, enclosed shoes and of course a helmet are essential. A tool kit to put chains back on bikes wouldn’t go astray, along with a hand pump for tyres just in case.
Special Needs
There is limited parking available on Leitchs Road, however there is a public carpark on the corner of Leitchs Road and Strathwyn Street. From there it is about a 50m walk to the track. There is a public bathroom located in the carpark. There are two water bubblers on site to refill water bottles. It does get quite hot on the track, as the surface reflects a lot of heat – even on a winters’ day you can get very hot very quickly and sunburnt. A lone tree is all the shade that is available and there is no seating, so bring a picnic blanket or chair.
