  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Helping teenagers become good team members and team building activities happens in schools and with community sport but what about outside these structures? Team building activities in Brisbane for teens are all about building a sense of self, a sense of belonging and a sense of leadership while being a valued team member.

What about if you are a parent and you want to bring your teenage kids together, or their friends? Or you are a teacher looking for activities outside the classroom? At this important developmental stage in their lives, team building helps them to foster relationships and learn to further develop skills in communication, problem-solving, trust-building, reaching goals, adaptability and planning.  At the same time, these positive interactions help to boost their self-esteem – which is something that is invaluable at this stage in their lives.  Most importantly though, these activities are all a lot of fun!

Escape Rooms

Team Building activities in Brisbane for teens

Puzzled Escape Room

Escape rooms are one of the most popular team building activities for teens in Brisbane.  Puzzled Escape Room in Holland Park West is one such place that offers teens the chance to work together in small groups to decipher puzzles and solve mysteries as they work towards their ultimate common goal – to escape the room they have been locked in together! As the game progresses, they will learn the enthralling story behind each theme and ultimately unlock the door to their escape.  Recommended for children 15 years and older, although children under 12 years are allowed in as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Abseiling

Abseiling is another great team building exercise for teens as it is a combination of many things that tend to excite their adventurous minds.  The heights, while scary for some, once overcome and conquered can be extremely empowering for youths and actually somewhat addictive.  The adrenalin, adventure, challenge and excitement of rappelling off the side of a cliff offer a great way to leave a lasting impression on their young minds.

Riverlife offers team building group abseils down the picturesque Kangaroo Point Cliffs.  After taking in the spectacular views of our city and river, experienced instructors can help your team conquer their fears as they guide you safely over the edge.  With trust overcoming natural instinct, you will be abseiling down the 20 metre high cliffs in no time.

You can find a range of adventure-type activities like this on our huge resource of things to do with teenagers in Brisbane.

Thunderbird Park

The Quest / Laser Skirmish / Treetop Challenge

Thunderbird Park at Tamborine Mountain is a fantastic place that specialises in team building activities. Here, depending on the ages and size of your group you will be able to choose between a range of options, including navigating the high rope course of the Treetop Challenge and an adrenalin-fueled outdoor game of laser skirmish.

Thunderbird park also offer groups the opportunity to participate in ‘The Quest’ – which is where a group are challenged to solve problems, build items and overcome a series of challenges together.

Kayaking down the Brisbane River

Another activity that will get your team of teens out and exploring their natural surrounds is kayaking along the Brisbane River.  Riverlife once again offers Adventure Team Building Packages that provide the environment for teams to work on their foundation of communication and problem-solving. In a group, the kids will be able to jump aboard a kayak each and paddle their way under the Story Bridge or past South Bank, experiencing our beautiful city as they may never have before.

Volunteering

At a time in their lives when it is hard to see much beyond their own personal issues, volunteering is the perfect team exercise to for a group of teenagers, usually leaving them at the end with a new perspective as well as a greater understanding of the community that they live in.  There are many volunteering opportunities in and around Brisbane for a group of teens to assist on together.

We created this resource you might be interested in called Volunteering ideas with your kids.

Otherwise, you might also like to look at Volunteering Qld who offer a free online search tool for finding thousands of volunteering opportunities available all over Queensland.  The volunteer positions are varied and cover the arts, environmental conservation, sports, welfare and emergency services. You can help the homeless, children, animals, the elderly, refugees or people living with disabilities.  The opportunities include one off events, short term projects and long term roles. You are also able to search based on your interests, motivations, availability and location.

Camping

South East Queensland offers some pretty amazing camping spots that are both secluded and beautiful.  A great way to navigate team building is by organising a short camping trip to fairly remote destinations, like Moreton Island or some of the basic camp grounds on Stradbroke Island.  The group can work together beforehand to plan their trip, delegate responsibilities and organise everything they will need to pack.  When they arrive they can then navigate and problem-solve their way through setting up camp, cooking their food and exploring the surrounds together.  And what better way to end it all then by roasting marshmallows and telling tales around an open fire.

Story Bridge Adventure Climb

If you are looking for the ultimate Brisbane team building exercise then look no further than the heart of our city – the iconic Story Bridge.  The Story Bridge Adventure climb offers teens the opportunity to overcome their fears as they journey perilously high above the traffic and walk the many steps that lead to the highest point of the bridge arch.

Experience a unique perspective of the city and its surrounds, from the Glass House Mountains in the north to Moreton Bay in the east and stretching towards the Scenic Rim Mountains in the south, along with the best views of the Brisbane skyline and its surrounds.
