  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Best Driving Schools in Brisbane

Driving lessons for teens in Brisbane

Finding the best driving schools in Brisbane is about finding the right experience, attitude and availability.

Learning to drive is a rite of passage for most young adults and teens can apply for a “learner licence” (otherwise known as a learners permit) when they reach sixteen.

Using a driving school ensures your teen is taught the correct way, both in terms of road rules and in other technical driving matters. It is perfectly usual for parents to do the bulk of the work and use driving schools as extra support. One way to keep it cost-effective is by booking some driving lessons when they receive their permit and then again just before sitting the practical driving test. You may also want to include the odd driving lesson throughout the term of their learning process.

How to get your learners licence in Queensland

For a teenager to obtain a learners licence in Queensland, they must be 16 years of age. Before going to a transport centre to apply for their learners licence, they will first need to study the Queensland road rules, which you can find at tmr.qld.gov.au.

Once arriving at a Transport and Main Roads customer service centre, they will need to pay a fee and provide sufficient ID before sitting a written road test. You can learn more about the written road rules test and find an online practice test here.

Why Learn to Drive with a Driving School?

Learning to drive with a driving school isn’t cheap, but it has some clear benefits for beginner motorists. For example:

  • It is the safest way for teens to learn how to drive.
  • Teens learn from professionals who teach based on the official Queensland road rules and not presumed road rules or even bad habits that other drivers may think are correct.
  • Learning from an instructor avoids the inevitable arguments from family members trying to teach teens in high-stress situations.
  • Teens gain three logbook hours for every hour spent with an accredited trainer (up to a maximum of 30 logbook hours or ten actual hours).

Also, according to the Queensland State Government at qld.gov.au,

The benefits of using a professional driver trainer include:

  • a properly trained teacher realises that you are an individual
  • the trainer can develop a teaching plan to suit your needs
  • lessons may be taken before or after work and in some cases on weekends
  • rates are competitive and lessons run for a prescribed length of time.
  • Experienced trainers often know the likely driving route for the licence test.

What Should We Consider When Choosing a Driving School?

The Government has the following advice to offer new motorists (here):

When looking for a driver trainer, cheaper is not always better. Make sure you check:

  • the driver trainer’s accreditation and experience
  • how long each lesson will be
  • whether the trainer follows a structured approach with defined objectives.

How Can We Find a Good Driving School?

The RACQ has a list of RACQ-approved driving schools, which you can find at racq.com.au. Those in the Brisbane Metro area include:

  • Anchor Driving School
  • Cleveland Driving School
  • Metro Driving School
  • Pacific Driving School
  • Rightway and Coastwide Driving Schools

Other driving schools in Brisbane include:

  • Ace Driving School
  • Affordable Driving School
  • Chrome Drive
  • My Driving School
  • No Yelling Driving School
  • RAC School of Motoring
  • T2 Driving School
  • My Life Driving School

You can also search for schools using Google Maps. Searching for a driving school with Google Maps can show you rates and reviews for various schools.

It is also great to get personal recommendations to help you find the right driving school to fit you or your child. Make sure you ask around family and friends for their recommendations!
