Redlands Youth Plaza Skate Park
If you have a little sporting fanatic in your mix – or even if you are keen to get the kids out and moving off some of that unwanted energy – then the Redlands Youth Plaza is one of the best places to head on the Southside of Brisbane.
Also known as Calapaba Skate Park, Redlands Youth Plaza is one of Brisbane’s largest skate parks and youth entertainment hotspots. Catering to skaters of all skill levels, the timber, steel, paving and concrete facilities include a 100m long street run with multiple connecting areas.
The larger venue is equipped with night lighting and includes an elevated stage for various events, treed viewing and seating spaces throughout. This multipurpose public space also has a performance stage, a large lawn court, a redeveloped Rage Cage for ball sports, an art and exhibition space with permanent mounting posts and numerous social spaces.
Numerous large, green fields are also set up for different sports including soccer, AFL and football.
Redlands Youth Plaza – Skate Park Features
Any Southside kids (or Brisbane kids in general) who love to board, scooter or bike will find plenty of ways to test their skills at Redlands Youth Plaza. One of the biggest skate and BMX parks in Queensland, the purpose-built facility provides ample practice grounds to perfect those skating tricks.
One of the main draw cards to the park is its large 6-8 foot clover-shaped bowl with pool coping. It is smooth, with ledges and a vertical wall. Three levels of ledges surround the bowl on two sides. Capalaba Skate Park is also home to a larger connecting plaza with a 12 stair, 8 stair, big 4, access ramp gap, garden gaps, flat bar and manual pads.
The skate park also features hubbas, hips, a sub box, sub rail, and a stepped back vertical wall. There is seating, large grassy fields and viewing decks for people who are keen to act more as spectator than participant too.
Redlands Youth Plaza – Sporting Fields and Other Facilities
As if that was not enough already to keep your kids busy for hours on end, the Redlands Youth Plaza is also home to a range of integrated facilities providing sporting, cultural and social activity. These include a rage cage for ball sports, including basketball, and art and exhibition space with permanent mounting posts and numerous social spaces for informal gatherings and art displays.
The skate park is surrounded by multiple large, separated sporting fields with soccer, AFL and rugby games facilities. There is a large grassy oval for a general kick around, commercial fitness areas and so much more.
There is ample parking at the front of the Redlands Youth Plaza, which sits behind a row of small shops and eateries. There is seating, BBQ facilities, a playground, shade shelter and plenty of shady trees too.
