  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Wellington Point Recreation Reserve Playground

Last updated: December 19, 2022

Wellington Point Recreation Reserve Playground is the ultimate natural playground for families.  Canopied by giant climbing trees, the playground sits beachside, allowing kids to run between the water and the playground and maybe even head on over for a walk to King Island when the tide goes out.

Wellington Point Recreation Reserve Playground is a true nature playground for children, young and old.  Surrounded by water, the generously-spaced playground is nestled beneath huge Moreton Bay Fig trees, giving it a lovely shaded feel all year round.

The playground strongly focuses on nature play and features several play areas.  There is also a climbing wall, swings, rocks, wooden beams, a playground with slides and rope bridges, a pirate ship wheel and wooden house structures too.  All of this is situated alongside the Wellington Point beach, which at low tide opens up a walkway to King Island.

The playground is a part of the Wellington Point Recreation Reserve, which is also home to various shaded picnic areas, water-facing benches and covered seating, a motorised boat ramp, jetty for fishing and also plenty of other water sport activities.

Nature Play

Situated on the western side of the peninsular, the Wellington Point Recreation Reserve Playground has to be one of the best nature-play playgrounds in Brisbane.  Even without the wooden play structures, the towering and ever-reaching branches of the surrounding Moreton Bay Fig trees are simply beckoning to be climbed and explored.  The trees at this park are usually filled with children who have clambered up their sturdy, thick and low-lying branches.

Sitting alongside the water, kids love running between the trees, the park and the water’s edge as they take in all the natural beauty the playground and its surrounds offer.

The beach at Wellington Point is sheltered and a great spot for the kids to swim in at high tide. If you are there at low tide, kids will love to explore and fossick along the flats, with small pools of water and hundred of tiny crab holes emerging.  The sand at low tide on the beach does become quite muddy (which kids love too) and a million shells are unearthed at this point too. Although not part of the playground, at low tide, many families also venture across the natural sand walkway that emerges between Wellington Point and the nearby King Island.

During peak periods such as summer weekends and school holidays, a lifeguard service is present here.

Tip: One way to make the most of your trip to Wellington Point is to check out the tides before planning your trip.  If you are keen to make the most of your day and would love to walk over to King Island or check out the marine life that comes out at low tide, then you can check out the daily tide times here.

Imagination Factor

The playground is overflowing with imaginative play opportunities for the kids.  Two large wooden-beamed house structures are set up at different points within the park.  Brisbane Kids will love pretending they have a house beneath the trees, or possibly it is a meeting spot, church or castle?  The options of what these simple open-air buildings can become is limited only by the child’s imagination.

At the far end of the play space is another small playground fort with an exterior wall shaped like a ship.  There is even a pointed end and a small ship’s steering wheel mounted, which kids can use as they imagine they are sailing in the waters beside them.

Accessibility

The park is extremely spacious and has a wide, flat path that winds throughout it, making it easily accessible to those with wheelchairs.  The access to the beach from the playground is also flat and gently sloping.

The playground and reserve have several toilet blocks, including wheelchair-accessible toilets and change rooms.

The reserve has ample parking for visitors too, which parking spaces available right beside the playground and a very large parking area alongside the jetty and boat access points on the other side of the reserve.
