Do you have an animal lover in your family and want an affordable, EWE Nique experience with a variety of animals? Then head to EWE Nique Hobby Farm in Haigslea.
This picturesque farm located just off the Warrego Highway, past Blacksoil (west of Brisbane), is the ideal spot to spend some quality time in the country with a menagerie of cute and cuddly farm animals. The sheep, goats and alpacas are the stars of the show but don’t forget the about the fluffy chickens and noisy geese lurking in the background.
Hand feeding animals
The animals are housed in a large area just beside the farmhouse, but if you have a child that would prefer a bit of distance between themselves and the animals, they can safely view the animals from outside the fenced area.
The children enjoyed patting and hand feeding the sheep and goats with the biggest highlight seeing the newly born kids (baby goats that is). They were skipping about, playing with their siblings and occasionally enjoying a tender cuddle from the visitors. A bucket of animal feed is included in the small admission price and can be used to feed the alpacas, chicken, goats and sheep.
Hospitality overflowing
Make sure you don’t leave the farm before having a hot or cold drink and sampling some of Penny’s homemade goods at the on-site cafe. Our family favourites were the raspberry and coconut muffins, caramel slice and banana cake, all washed down with a freshly brewed coffee, sourced from the local area. It was so peaceful and relaxing perched on a hay bale, watching the native birds flit between the trees, admiring the gardens, that we could have spent all afternoon there.
A visit to the EWE Nique Hobby Farm is like visiting family. The owners Penny and David are clearly passionate about the farm and their beloved animals. They are always on hand to answer questions, talk about the animals or just have a yarn about anything that takes your fancy. As we were leaving, Penny presented the children with some animal colouring-in sheets as well as some strawberry seedlings. On the trip home, we all had fun trying to remember the name of all the animals – Guppy, Toffee, Malibu, Speckles, Shadow…….
