When the temperature drops, hot chocolate is one of our favourite ways of warming the heart and the belly. We posed the question to our Facebook community – “Where can you buy the best hot chocolate in Brisbane?” – and the list of recommendations that came back was huge!
Whether your preference is dark and rich, frothy and sweet, or even rainbow-coloured, the following are the best of the best places for hot chocolate across all of Brisbane. And if hot chocolate isn’t your thing, fear not, because all these places also have a range of other outstanding treats on offer.
Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar at South Bank
In case you haven’t heard, chocolate desserts are Cowch’s specialty. From dessert pizzas to melted chocolate fondue, no trip to South Bank is complete without a dessert stop at Cowch. Their drinks menu includes a range of super shakes, mocktails, smoothies and adult cocktails, but it’s their deluxe hot chocolate that has stolen our hearts. Choose from milk, white, dark or caramel for your hot chocolate base, then splurge with some added whipped cream and toasted marshmallows. Gluten free and vegan options are also available, along with a dedicated kids’ menu. Lindt Chocolate Shop at DFO Brisbane Airport
The Lindt name is synonymous with delicious, high quality chocolate. Stepping inside one of the Lindt Cafe stores is like stepping into Willy Wonka’s chocolate room – the scent is drool-worthy! As one would expect, the café offerings at Lindt are just as scrumdidilyumpious, with a menu including delicious cakes, sundaes and desserts, as well as some of the best hot chocolates you’ve ever tasted. Their signature hot chocolate varieties include dark chocolate, milk chocolate, salted caramel or hazelnut, as well as more grown-up mocha options in the same flavour range.

Oliver Brown at Westfield Garden City
Located within Westfield Garden City, Oliver Brown is a decadent dessert destination not to be missed. Specialising in delicious dishes created from the finest quality imported Belgian chocolate, their hot chocolate varieties almost warrant an entire menu of their own! Options include milk, dark or white hot chocolate, ‘crunchy balls’ hot chocolate, mint hot chocolate, coconut hot chocolate, whipped cream hot chocolate, and even a mocha – all made with 100% Belgian chocolate.

With two locations in Brisbane, Passiontree Velvet specialises in bespoke, handcrafted cakes for all occasions. Their cafes also serve up indulgent slices of their cakes, as well as macarons, high tea (at selected stores), coffee and light bites to eat. Their milk hot chocolate comes highly recommended, and their kids’ Teddy Bear’s Picnic High Tea is the perfect high tea option for littlies.

Piggy Back Cafe at Jindalee
Piggy Back Café is a family-friendly, laid back café, offering all day breakfasts, tasty baked treats and outdoor styled lunches. One look at their Facebook page and you will see why this café is so popular with locals. Their Insta-worthy menu items include açai bowls, cookies and cream French toast, croissants and more, but it’s their drinks menu that has caught the eye of locals. Piggy Back’s rainbow coffee, superfood latte, and yummy smoothies are popular, however a visit here is not complete without an Oreo Hot Chocolate (made with white chocolate, milk, whipped cream and Oreos).

The smell inside the Noosa Chocolate Factory is just divine. With chocolate made fresh locally every day, you just know you’re going to love whatever you try in here. Offering a huge selection of chocolate slabs to choose from, it’s the Noosa Chocolate Factory’s coffees and rustic hot chocolates that have become a Brisbane CBD institution.
