  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Easter Craft Idea | Bunny and Chicken

Last updated: March 31, 2018

Sometimes all your need to make an Easter gift that little bit more fun and personal is an adorable handmade accessory that adorns it with love.  I made these little Easter bunny and chicken gift tag holders with my kids last year and we used them to decorate the presents for their grandparents as well as the gift tags to their cousins.  These can even be added quite simply to a basic hair clip to make for an egg-stremely cute hair accessory over the school holidays (and beyond).  Best of all, these are as simple to make as they look!  If you are after a very easy (and relatively mess-free) Easter craft to do with your children then look no further than this sweet bunny / chicken gift tag or hair clip craft.

What you need

  • Small craft pegs or hair clip bases (varying sizes and colours depending on what you desire)
  • Three fluffy pom balls – 1 x Medium, 1 x Small, 1 x Very small  (you only need 2 for the chicken, no very small needed)
  • 2 x tiny black beads (for eyes)
  • 1 x small white pearl bead (for rabbit nose) OR 1 x small orange felt square (for chicken beak)
  • 1 x strand of white straw (for rabbit whiskers)
  • Coloured card in two colours – pink or blue and white (for rabbit ears) OR yellow craft feathers (for chicken)
  • Hot glue gun or craft glue
  • Scissors

BUNNY PEGS / CLIPS

Step 1:

Turn the peg on its side and add a strip of hot glue from your pre-heated glue gun down the side.  Parents, as these get very hot it is best if the adult does any hot gluing while the kids put the craft animals together.  Alternatively, craft glue works wonders and is fine for the kids to use if confident.

Step 2:

Place the three pom balls along the peg.  The small sized one will be at the end of the peg (head), then the medium one (body) and finally the very small one at the end (tail).  We used the same colour small and medium balls for the head and body but used a different colour for the very small one for the fluffy tail.

Step 3:

Carefully apply some craft glue to the black beads for the eyes and apply, then do the same for the pearly nose bead.  This is probably best for an older child or adult to do as the smaller beads can be quite tricky to navigate in fingers once they have glue on them.

Step 4:

Cut the white straw string into two equal size lengths.  These are the whiskers for the bunny so it is best to decide on what length you would like by checking this against the head of the bunny.  These are then crossed over each other (see image) and glued under the pearly white nose bead.

Step 5:

Finally, cut out a two long ear shapes out of the coloured card.  Then cut similar, smaller shapes out of your white card.  Glue a small ear shape to the front of a big ear shape.  Do this to create a set of ears.

Step 6:

Glue the ears carefully to the top of the bunnies head and you are finished!!!!

CHICKEN PEGS / CLIPS

Step 2:

Place the two yellow pom balls along the peg.  The small sized one will be at the end of the peg (head) with the medium one (body) directly behind it.

Step 3:

Carefully apply some craft glue to the black beads for the eyes and apply, This is probably best for an older child or adult to do as the smaller beads can be quite tricky to navigate in fingers once they have glue on them.

Step 4:

Cut a very small triangle from the orange felt and curl it in to make a beak shape.  Glue this to the head of the duck below the eyes.

Step 5:

Finally, glue some yellow feathers to the back and bottom of the yellow poms to give the chicken it’s bird-like feel.  And…just like that, you are done!

It is that simple!  A quick few minutes of mess, sure, but some really adorable items at the end that the kids will be proud of and adore.  Happy Easter crafting!
