Initial Consultation
All patients have a complete medical examination and mapping of veins to determine the type and extent of their venous disease prior to the commencement of treatment. Dr Kemp will put
together a individual treatment plan with the recommended course of action, number of sessions required and all costs. This is valid for 12 months so you are under no obligation to book in on the day. Results can be sent on to your GP should you wish so they can be stored with your medical records. Initial consultations and some treatments have Medicare rebates available which can be processed in clinic.
- The cost of the initial consultation for varicose veins including an ultrasound scan is $190.
- The cost of initial consultation for spider veins is $90.
Treatment Options
Sclerotherapy: is the “Gold Standard” for spider veins and small varicose veins seen on the surface of the skin. This involves a meticulous injection of different sclerosants directed with the aid of light magnification.
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS): is the method of choice for treating veins which are hidden beneath the skin’s surface. Ultrasound imaging is used to guide insertion of the needle into the target vein.
EndoVenous Laser Therapy: is now considered the optimal treatment for the largest varicose veins, a modern alternative to surgery; a very fine fibre optic laser probe is inserted into the vein through a small puncture in the skin and then passed up to reach the primary source of the vein. The laser is turned on and as the fibre is slowly withdrawn, the vein becomes permanently sealed.
Medical Adhesive: Venaseal® or Venablock® Glue is inserted through a small catheter which is passed up inside a refluxing saphenous vein which is responsible for causing the varicose veins lower down the leg. As the catheter is withdrawn the glue is injected inside the vein. The vein is immediately sealed due to adhesion of the vein walls. Low grade inflammation over the ensuing weeks leads to fibrosis and permanent occlusion of the vein. Over time the glue is broken down and dissolved.
