Where kids have just as much fun as you do!

Have you always wanted some time to yourself but are way too nervous to leave your children with anyone other than family? Now you can! Coastal Babysitters aren’t just anyone! They have gone through a strict selection process and have the most qualified and experienced staff on their team which are personally selected and interviewed.

Who are Coastal Babysitters?

Created by a mum of two, Coastal Babysitters is an award-winning babysitting company that connects Brisbane families with professional, trusted and qualified sitters who will ensure your children are having a fun experience of their own so you can enjoy yourself without the guilt!

Coastal Babysitters believes all parents deserve time out while knowing their kids are in safe and trusted care but all while having FUN! They understand that mums and dads like you LOVE your kids, but somewhere between gliding an aeroplane spoon through the air and doing the ‘toilet time’ dance, your identity’s taken a backseat. But guess what? A full, uninterrupted day at the office, attending a super important event, or letting down your hair with a 5-course dinner date featuring bubbles and massages (too far?) doesn’t *have* to include a frantic call to the in-laws, a “Can I have a favour?” to a friend, or even a ‘will-they-come-home-sick?’ daycare fiasco.

Coastal Babysitters are the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Byron Bay’s go-to babysitters. They help grownups like you enjoy your world, while your little ones experience theirs. They get that you might feel a little nervous (which is normal!), concerned your little one might not like their babysitter, or worried if you’ll truly be able to relax while you’re out. How do they know? Because most of them are mums ourselves. So it’ll excite you that they’re delightfully easy to contact, will put you in touch with your sitter ahead of time and promise to keep you updated the whole way through.

Coastal Babysitters have over 300 brilliant babysitters on their books, with more than 500 5-star reviews from more than 7,000 families after 20,000+ kid-friendly experiences since 2016!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications and safety checks do Coastal Babysitters have?

All babysitters at Coastal Babysitters have their Blue Card, First Aid, and CPR Certificates, which are always kept up to date. The sitters are either mothers themselves, or have worked in childcare for at least three years. They are also fun, professional and have glowing references. In addition, most of the Brisbane babysitters have a Certificate 3 or Diploma in Child Services.

How are babysitters chosen by Coastal Babysitters?

All babysitters with Coastal Babysitters must have the required qualifications listed above and be lots of fun. Founder and mum of 2 Orly (the owner of Coastal Babysitters) would only send babysitters out to your family if she would be happy for them to look after her own children (and she’s very particular herself!). She personally interviews each sitter, with a focus on whether she’d feel comfortable having this sitter look after her little ones (because often they do!). So, beyond Blue Cards, Working with Children checks, First Aid and CPR Certifications, your sitter also receives the very legitimate mum stamp of approval.

What length of time can I hire a babysitter for?

You can hire one of the babysitters for as long as you need. There is a minimum of three (3) hours, but no maximum amount of time. Overnight stays are also available throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

How do I make a booking?

There is an easy online booking system which can be found on the Coastal Babysitters website. Coastal Babysitters are also very responsive by phone and email.

What can I expect once I’ve made a booking?

  • The team will assign the sitter that is best suited to your family based on ages of your children, location, and any other information you have provided.
  • Once a sitter is assigned, you will receive an email confirmation with the sitter’s profile and photo.
  • Your sitter will phone you the day before your booking to say hello and give you a chance to speak to them in person.
  • Your sitter will bring fun activities to keep your children entertained.
  • Your children will find that their babysitter/s are fun and engaging, giving them 100% attention the whole time.
  • You will be sent photos of your child throughout the day and a text message to say when they are asleep.
  • A little report card will also be left so you know exactly what happened ‘while you were out’.

Do any sitters have special needs experience?

Yes! All kids are special in their unique and different ways and Coastal Babysitters cater for all of them. Many of the sitters have experience with children who have special needs or require additional assistance.

Testimonials

‘Coastal Babysitters are excellent, our sitter broke the ice very easily with the girls and they had a lot of fun, the girls loved how she played board games with them and kept them entertained. I found the service during booking to be professional and it put me at ease to receive a call from Sophie the day before the booked time for babysitting for her to introduce herself and to give me an opportunity to ask questions. I found the price we paid very reasonable and the service excellent.’

‘AMAZING!!! We had Theresa look after my babies, 4 and 8 months, first time we have ever had someone who is not family look after our children, and she was amazing. Could not recommend more! Made us feel so comfortable and the kids too! she went above and beyond!! Would definitely use this service again next time we are in Brisbane!’

‘Friendly service. Quick responses. My children really enjoyed having our babysitter over. She arrived a little early and was quick to help out with before school jobs with the children while I got organised to leave. My children have not stopped talking about our babysitter and are looking forward to her visit again next week. Thank you for making me feel so comfortable and at ease with updates via text and a kind note on my fridge when I returned home. I will definitely be using this service many more times in the future.’

Filial Play Therapy

Filial Play Therapy (FPT) is a therapeutic approach that combines elements of play therapy and family therapy, primarily focusing on improving the parent-child relationship and enhancing emotional and behavioral functioning in children. This method is unique because it involves training parents to conduct therapeutic play sessions with their own children under the guidance and supervision of a trained therapist.

Key Features of Filial Play Therapy:

  1. Parental Involvement: Unlike traditional play therapy, where a therapist works directly with the child, FPT involves parents as the primary agents of change. Parents learn therapeutic play techniques and conduct play sessions with their children.
  2. Training and Supervision: Parents receive training from a therapist on how to engage in therapeutic play, including understanding play themes, recognizing and responding to children’s emotional needs, and using specific therapeutic skills. The therapist provides ongoing supervision and support.
  3. Strengthening Relationships: The core objective of FPT is to enhance the parent-child relationship. By engaging in play, parents can better understand their children’s feelings and behaviors, leading to improved communication and emotional bonding.
  4. Empowerment: Parents are empowered with tools and techniques that enable them to address their children’s emotional and behavioral issues, fostering a sense of competence and confidence in their parenting skills.
  5. Child-Centered Play: The play sessions are child-centered, meaning that the child leads the play while the parent follows. This approach allows children to express themselves freely and explore their emotions in a safe environment.

QLD Baby Hire https://brisbanekids.com.au/family/qld-baby-hire/ Tue, 09 Jan 2024 02:52:25 +0000 https://brisbanekids.com.au/?post_type=local_business&p=347777 QLD Baby Hire offers a wide range of baby items; from the famous SNOO basinet to Medela pumps, you need it, they have it! They are based in Carina Heights, Brisbane and also Ashmore, Gold Coast, and offer delivery for your convenience!

About QLD Baby Hire

Hiring is becoming a new trend! It’s easier than ever before to hire anything you may need, and it is also a lot more affordable than purchasing outright – especially if you only need items for a short period of time.

QLD Baby Hire knows first-hand how overwhelming and challenging it can be to find the right baby items. That’s why they have researched and invested in the best baby products out there to be able to help mums all over Brisbane and the Gold Coast get set up! The star of the QLD Baby Hire show is the SNOO, and we all know how expensive this is to purchase, so to be able to provide this to parents at a fraction of the purchase cost while helping them get more sleep is such an achievement!

QLD Baby Hire Logo.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cleaning process in between clients? All baby items are thoroughly cleaned in between hiring. Being run by a mum herself, QLD Baby Hire understands the need to keep your baby free from germs and this is their number one priority. They also check all equipment to make sure this is in working condition and ready for your baby.

Where can I collect from? QLD Baby Hire has two locations – Carina Heights in Brisbane and Ashmore on the Gold Coast. They also offer delivery in and around the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Northern NSW areas.

What is the booking process? Once you get in contact, QLD Baby Hire will send you a run down of all the costs, including the bond/deposit which is held for the duration of your hire. If you would like to go ahead and book, a small holding fee is required to secure your spot. This is ether $30 or $50, depending on the item. The remaining balance is then due upon collection.

Can I rent the SNOO out for less than a month to see if my baby likes it? QLD Baby Hire does offer weekly hire, however, when using the SNOO with her daughter, Jaidina found it took her around 11 nights to fully get in the swing of things. She personally believes you may need longer than a week to get the full benefit. This isn’t always the case though, and they see a lot of babies that settle in the SNOO immediately.

Can I book in advance even if I do not know the exact date I would like to collect? Absolutely! This is the best thing to do as QLD Baby Hire does book out quite far in advance! Once you have secured your spot, you can pencil in a date for your hire to start and come up with a more accurate date closer to the time.

Testimonials

Our family were lucky enough to stumble upon ‘Qld Baby Hire’ who we chose to go through for the hire of a Snoo for 6 months. The company was an absolute pleasure to deal with, Jaidina in particular was always so responsive and upbeat, fielded all my questions and was extremely knowledgeable with troubleshooting any problems that arose. She was also kind enough to check in periodically to see how we were going with the product and how our little one was going too!” – Sarah Brooker

Cannot recommend Jaidina enough! To have access to a snoo without having to purchase one outright was a god send. Her customer service and friendly nature was warm and welcoming as well as going above and beyond with dropping off and collection options. She made the process so easy and refunded our deposit the following day after pick up. Definitely will be recommending her to all new mums 💗 Thank you!!” – Isabell Purse

Absolute life saver. Jaidina has been lovely to deal with and the pram was so great to keep the toddler from running rampant at the airport. Qantas had no qualms with the pram being stored as carry on luggage. The bugaboo butterfly was easy to push, super simple to unfold and just a great pram. Jaidina was happy to help with a very early pick up and late drop off. Nothing was an issue. Thank you Jaidina!!” – Caitlin Mckay

Parenting Success https://brisbanekids.com.au/family/parenting-success/ Mon, 24 Jul 2023 02:31:13 +0000 https://brisbanekids.com.au/?post_type=local_business&p=315358 We often hear how exhausted parents are, and how much easier it would be if kids just “came with an instruction manual”. Well, the team at Parenting Success may have uncovered that manual!
Parenting Success is a Brisbane-based team of child and parent experts who understand the importance of building and nurturing healthy connections in families. They have a range of programs that help parents create stronger, more positive relationships with their children.

Parenting Success Narelle Dickinson.

What does the research say?

The research on creating psychologically healthy kids (who grow up to be psychologically healthy adults) is clear: we all need to feel safe and secure, and be provided opportunities to confidently
explore the world, knowing that a loving carer is watching over us, ready to support us and protect us, when we need it. The team at Parenting Success is comprised of experts in child and family
wellbeing. Directors Dr Upasana Kapoor (Paediatrician) and Narelle Dickinson (Clinical Psychologist) have pulled together a team of psychologists and child health medical professionals with a shared passion for helping families learn how to create and maintain these safe and secure home environments.

Dr Kapoor said, “Once we get a clear understanding of parent-child attachment, we have the tools to make the right choices in how to manage our children’s behaviour. By developing and nurturing a secure attachment with our children, we can help them become a loving child who can then become a loving and caring spouse and parent in the future.”

Parenting Success knows that once parents (or carers) can offer their children this safe, stable and predictable environment for exploration, they are giving their kids the best possible opportunity to grow up with more resilient mental health, higher self esteem, and the tools to establish healthy relationships with other people (including friends and partners), not just during childhood, but
throughout their lives.

Narelle Dickinson said, “The more secure your child is, the more likely they are to have high self-esteem and the confidence to succeed at school, and later at work. Our programs give parents the skills that help create an environment of emotional safety between parents and their kids, whatever their age.”

A suite of parenting programs on offer

Parenting is a tough gig.

Parenting Success knows that being a parent is the hardest job on the planet. So, they have assembled a suite of parenting programs which help parents learn how to strike the perfect balance
between following their child’s behavioural “cues” as a way to manage difficult behaviour and coping with “big” uncomfortable emotions. Of course, parents can’t be expected to let every moment of every day be taken up with emotion management, and parenting isn’t just about being “nice” to kids. These programs also provide the skills to help parents know how (and when) to take charge and set appropriate behavioural boundaries with their kids. The programs reinforce that parents are always there for their children, but that does not mean that we always have to be overly nice to them. Sometimes it is necessary to let them know that they have crossed the boundary.

Parenting Success external entrance.

What’s the right program for my family?

The team at Parenting Success is passionate about the programs they offer. They know that when parents learn to tune into their children’s (and their own) emotions, and partner with their kids to get through the tough times, they will discover the most wonderful and essential gift they could ever offer to their child.

Circle of Security Parenting (COSP)

For parents of younger children (infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers), the most appropriate program would be the internationally renowned Circle of Security Parenting program (COSP). COSP is based on decades of research and provides a simple model to understand the day-to-day behaviours of our children. COSP teaches parents to consider their parenting this way: “Always be: Bigger, stronger, wiser and kind. Whenever possible: Follow my child needs. Whenever necessary: Take charge.” It’s a relief to know that the COSP research on understanding and meeting young children’s emotional needs is clear: we don’t have to be perfect in our responding. Rather, if parents can get it “right” at least 30 percent of the time, then that is “Good Enough“.

Parenting Success also offers workshops for professional carers (such as child care centres) on the COSP model, meaning children can have all of their carers working together the same way, ensuring that they have the most stable and predictable emotional support at home and away.

Tuning in to Kids (TIIK)

For older kids, parents will probably find the Tuning in to Kids (TIIK) suite of programs a little more relatable. These programs (Tuning in to Kids, Tuning in to Teens and Tuning in for Dads) help to teach both parents and children how to express emotions in healthy ways.

The TIIK programs are based on the idea that human emotions are central to communication and connection. When we communicate at the emotional level, we feel closer connections. All emotions serve a function and provide us with important information about ourselves and our environment.

Emotional connection is central and important to our well-being and optimises life outcomes.

Research clearly shows that behaviour problems often reduce or stop when emotional acceptance and understanding occurs. The TIIK programs recognise that every family is unique and that
parents/carers know their children best.

Testimonials

I found that understanding my Shark Music was most helpful, that I feel a renewed patience, and like I have the capacity and skill set to support my children to organise their feelings.”

The facilitator was fantastic, warm, welcoming, and informative and the wine and snacks was a nice surprise!

I realised that I can be a mean parent, and that’s because that’s the way I was parented. I feel like now I have the skills to change that.

Hello Sunshine Photography Testimonials

*****
We asked Sarah to photograph our family and new baby after seeing her beautiful pictures on Instagram. We were blown away with her professionalism on the day of the photoshoot and how good and patient she was with our baby. We were also thankful for her great styling abilities in the house and wrapping the sleeping baby so he looked just perfect – capturing the perfect shot. The finished product is amazing we love the photos, canvases and albums she produced. The quality is amazing. We will definitely be asking Sarah to photograph the family again in the future. { Alicia D. }

*****
We recently had a newborn shoot at home for our first baby with Hello Sunshine Photography. Right from my initial enquiry, Sarah was incredible to work together with. She was prompt at answering my questions and then once we confirmed our booking she made the entire process very easy with lots of communication on how we can ensure the shoot runs smoothly (as wrangling a newborn baby can be quite difficult at times). When Sarah arrived, we were blown away at how amazing she was at her job; she very gently handled our baby and set up some amazing shots (even including our dog in some of the photographs). The final photographs are gorgeous and we certainly will be using Hello Sunshine Photography again in the future! { Cara C. }

*****
Sarah made the whole experience easy yet special. From her tips and contact before the photoshoot to make sure we were all nice and comfortable at home with our new baby ready for our photos and her laid back, friendly demeanour when she came to our home. We loved our whole session. Sarah was heartfelt in all of her dealings and didn’t even mind an excited puppy making sure she got the whole family in the shoot!! We would definitely recommend her for any sessions where you want some beautiful natural photos to remember the special times. { Hannah R. }

Mobile Kids Hairdresser with Giggles and Scissors https://brisbanekids.com.au/family/mobile-kids-hairdresser-giggles-scissors/ Sun, 14 May 2017 01:29:52 +0000 https://brisbanekids.com.au/?post_type=local_business&p=192737 Giggles and Scissors is a mobile hairdresser specialising in children’s haircuts. Servicing most areas of Brisbane, this is a fun and easy way to get all your kids’ hair cut at the same time in the comfort of your own home!

Pam is an internationally-experienced hairdresser and, in addition to hair cuts, also offers a lice treatment service. This is all about taking the stress out of getting your Brisbane Kids’ hair cut and avoiding the smells and other associations of hairdressing salons. Giggles and Scissors welcome Brisbane Kids with special needs such as sensory issues – you shouldn’t worry, because Pam won’t!

Kids who are anxious about haircuts

My child REALLY doesn’t like haircuts…

This is a lot more common than you probably know, and this is why Giggles and Scissors offer haircuts in the comfort of your child’s home.

The biggest help in this situation is understanding that when a child goes near a pair of scissors, the first reaction from a parent is “NO”, “don’t touch”, “they will cut you”, “hurt you”, “ouchy” and so on… But what happens when you take them into a hairdressing salon? They are placed in front of a mirror, told to sit still while a stranger (in most cases) waves a pair of sharp scissors around their face, ears and head. It is ok for your little one to be scared, upset or angry about haircuts. It won’t last forever and when they get past that “fear” it usually won’t return! The most important thing is that you educate them why they need to get haircuts and that no matter how much they may not like it, it’s something that just has to be done.

Parents’ haircuts

Can I have my hair cut while you’re here to do my child’s? Absolutely! Giggles and Scissors has a “word of mouth” home salon in north Brisbane. Pam has been hairdressing for 11 years and 70% of her clients are adults. She understands how hard it can be getting out of the house for “you” time, so chat to Pam about it when you make your child’s appointment.

For more info regarding Giggles and Scissors’ mobile haircut pricing, please visit their website. Whilst Pam services most of Brisbane, please check if she covers your area. If not, she has a home studio where she can see you.
