  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Fun Christmas Light Activities for Kids

Last updated: November 29, 2023

There is no doubting the festive season is a fun time of the year, from the Christmas parties, the giving and receiving of gifts and of course the gorgeous Christmas Light displays that light up our streets in Brisbane each year.

To add another fun element to hunting for Christmas Lights, we have compiled this list of fun, family friendly activities which Brisbane Kids can enjoy this festive period.

Fun Christmas Light Activities for Kids

Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt

If you are looking to have a ‘purpose’ when you are out looking at the Christmas light displays, then you will love our Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt. The rules for the hunt are simple – visit displays, check off items as you find them, maybe snap a pic as proof, and keep going until you find them all! You can download and print a PDF of the scavenger hunt here

Use our Brisbane Kids Christmas Hunt Scavenger List in conjunction with our Christmas Lights Brisbane maps and lists, to make looking at Christmas displays fun and easy.

Depending on how many displays you plan to see in one night, you may choose to do the hunt over several nights, a week or set your own timeframe. Make things interesting by competing against your neighbours, friends, family or work mates. You could even have a prize for the winner!

Santa Selfies

If there is one thing you are almost guaranteed to find at a Christmas light display it is Santa! Your mission (should you choose to accept it), is to take a selfie with Santa at every display you visit. Get creative with your photos – it might be someone in a Santa costume, an inflatable Santa, a Santa cut-out, or an illuminated Santa. You could even create a ‘Santa Selfie’ collage to display your seriously cool Santa selfies.

Drive-By Sing-Alongs

Seeing the pretty Christmas Lights brighten up the neighbourhood is pretty special. While it is wonderful when you can get out and explore them on foot, this isn’t always possible. Maybe it’s raining, perhaps you have a sleeping child in the car, or maybe a loved one has an injury.

Don’t give up hope, you can still have fun while driving around looking at the displays. Get into the spirit by dressing up in festive outfits and maybe even dress up your car (safely and legally of course). Pile into the car, turn on the Christmas tunes, warm up your singing voices and have a family sing-along as you cruise the streets marvelling at the lights.

Christmas Trivia

Do you know how many gifts in total were given in the “The Twelve Days of Christmas” song? What about which Christmas carol became the first song ever broadcast from space? Answering these Christmassy questions and more from our Christmas Trivia List is a fun way to pass time while driving around. It is also a great way to learn some weird and wonderful facts and compete against your family members.

If reading in the car isn’t your thing perhaps ask a question every time you get out of the car to see a display, and another one when you get back in. I wonder who will have the best Christmas knowledge in your family?

Giving Thanks

Witnessing the dazzling light displays each Christmas is a longstanding tradition among many families. But let’s not forget why we are able to have this tradition – it is because many fantastic and dedicated people put hours and hours of hard work into making these displays.

To help children (and adults) appreciate the effort these people go to each year, why not spend some time making little thank you notes. If you are lucky enough to meet the owners make sure you tell them how great their display is and what you like best, otherwise, slip a little thank you note into their mailbox to let them know how grateful you are for their festive display.

Where to Find the Best Christmas Light Displays in Brisbane

Every year we compile a massive list of all the places in Brisbane where you can see sparkly Christmas Light displays. From a single home to whole streets participating, a place overflowing with inflatables to synchronised light displays, we have it all!

To make it even easier to find these displays we have handy lists which you can print according to region (and then listed by suburbs). To complement this, we also have an interactive map you can use on your phone to find the closest display near you.

You can check out our lists at Christmas Lights Brisbane. We also encourage you to like and share our Christmas Lights Brisbane Facebook page, as we post daily here showcasing the amazing displays in Brisbane.

And if you have your own display, you want included on the lists, go ahead and submit your details here.

Having Fun and Being Safe

When out and about looking at Christmas Light displays, we know you want to have fun, but it is also important you and your family remain safe.

Consider the following:

  • Displays are expensive and can be dangerous, so please do not touch.
  • Follow any instructions given by the property owners.
  • Always keep small children within arm’s reach, especially in big crowds and when near roads.
  • Park legally and respectfully

Above all, have fun and create beautiful memories with your family and friends. Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy exploring the many wonderful Christmas Light displays around Brisbane.
