  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Homemade Christmas Card Ideas to do with Kids

Last Updated: November 20, 2023
homemade, christmas, cards, crafts, kids

This is a great simple craft activity for creating custom-made Christmas cards at home, for children of all ages. We have provided instructions for five different designs, though your Brisbane Kids may enjoy coming up with their own! It is advised to only allow one child at a time to do this activity, or set up at a large table so several children can spread out.

Making homemade Christmas cards – Materials needed

There really is no limit to your imagination when it comes to making one-of-a-kind Christmas cards, however these are some of the basic supplies you will need –

  • Coloured paper/card
  • Plain card
  • Paint and brushes
  • Black marker
  • Pencil
  • Decorations (foam stickers, glitter, stars etc)
  • Ribbon or string

How to make a Christmas Tree Card

Step 1:

This Christmas Tree Card is one of the best homemade Christmas card ideas for small toddlers whose hand and finger prints never turn out clearly. Paint your child’s palm and fingers with green paint, and press down onto a folded white card. Repeat this process on the same card, moving the hand slightly to the left and then to the right.

Step 2:

Using brown paint and a paintbrush, add in the trees trunk. Kids can then place a star sticker at the top of the tree and glue “decorations” wherever they like onto the tree. This is an easy but effective art work for small people.

Make a Snowman Card at home

Step 1:

This cute homemade Christmas card can be customised easily, swapping the background colours and decorating the snowmen as desired. Firstly, take a coloured piece of paper for the background. Paint your child’s fingers (excluding the thumb) and the top 3rd of your child’s palm with white paint. Place palm down onto the paper and press firmly.

Step 2:

When the paint has dried, use the black marker to draw on the eyes and a mouth. Using orange paint, gently dab a nose on the snowmen’s faces. Using white paint, gently dot snow around the snowmen on the coloured card. Paint scarves, hats or buttons to make the snowmen unique. Fold a plain piece of card in half and paste the snowman picture to the front, and you’re done!

Christmas Lights Card

Step 1:

This Christmas Lights card is one of the most simple ones to make out of the all – but the kids absolutely loved making it as well as the look of the finished product. Using a plain card, start by drawing a string along the length of the paper.

Step 2:

Using assorted colours, finger paint the lights onto the string. When dried go over the string line with black marker. Quick and easy.

Reindeer Card

Step 1:

This adorable Reindeer card is another one that will have the kids doing a bit of finger (well, thumb) painting and then the background can be anything they want.  To make this card, first you will need to fold a piece of plain card in half. Your child can paint some grass on the bottom so that they can help line up where their reindeer will go.  Using brown paint cover the top of your child’s thumb and press down to create the head. Then paint your child’s whole thumb to create the body.

Step 2:

When this is dry, use a black pen or marker to draw on antlers, eyes, mouth and legs. We used some fun little googly eyes on our reindeer! Then using red, paint in the reindeer’s nose. Decorate any way you like.

Candy Cane Card

Step 1:

Our final cute Christmas card is the candy cane one.  To make this card you first need to choose a coloured piece of paper for the back drop. Cut this to the correct size and glue to the front of a folded piece of white card.  Allow to dry.

When it is dry, use a pencil to draw a faint outline of a candy cane onto the paper. Have your child dip their pointer finger into red paint and finger paint dots along the outline, leaving a space in between each dot for the white finger print. Clean finger off and then use white to finger paint the dots in between the red dots. Finally, using ribbon or string create a small bow and glue onto the candy cane.
