Messy play – tick!
Creative fun – tick!
Simple, original art work – tick!
Getting started
Messy play/painting with shaving cream has to be one of the simplest art activities you can do, and is loads of fun for the kids. To get started, you simply need:
- shaving cream
- food colouring
- a container to contain the mess
- blank paper
- frames if you wish to turn your kids’ artworks into a keepsake!
How to create shaving foam paintings
Step 1
Fill your container with shaving cream and add a few drops of food colouring. You may like to try a few different colours in the one container.
Step 2
Get messy! Dress your children in old clothes, and perhaps do this activity in the garden so that kids can get really messy. They will love to make beautiful patterns in the shaving cream by using their hands to mix the colours.
Step 3
Pat down on the shaving cream with your blank piece of paper. Scrape off the extra foam and allow to dry.
Step 4
Once dry, cut your picture to the size of your frame. You may like to add some pressed flowers or leaves that you have collected from your garden. Stick these on to the foam painting background and place in your frame for a beautiful piece of original artwork. These make a great gift for friends and family, and a perfect weekend or school holiday craft project.
