Taigum Kids Early Learning Centres cater for children from 6 weeks to 5 years. Within the 2 services they have 10 rooms, inclusive of 2 Queensland Government Approved Kindergarten rooms that are run by bachelor qualified teachers. Programs within the centres are run all year around from 6am-6.30pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
The Taigum Kids ELC Environment
Both Taigum Kids ELCs have full access to a farm that is occupied by a number of guinea pigs, 2 goats, 2 sheep, 1 miniature pony and even a cow! Swiss the cow arrived at the centre in 2019 at just 3 days old and has been bottle-fed by the children since he arrived. The children attending the service are active participants in the running of the farm that also has chickens who eat all of their leftover food scraps!
Kids ELC are also passionate advocates of embedding a sustainability program run by their Sustainability Leader; through the animals and our centre worm farms, compost farms and vegetable gardens. The services have wonderful natural play areas for the children to explore and each service has its own water park and bike tracks, along with cubby houses, boats and forts to explore.
Flexible and high quality care
Included in the daily fees, Taigum Kids Early Learning Centre provides morning tea, a hot lunch and afternoon tea, nappies, wipes and sunscreen (which includes repellent). The option of a hot meal at a very small cost is also available if required for the main lunch meal. Taigum Kids is designed to provide high quality care and education to the families attending their service. They are flexible in catering for the varying needs of our children, families and educators while providing support and consistency.
Play based learning at Taigum Kids ELC
Taigum Kids ELC is inspired by The Reggio Emilia philosophy. The educators and management of Taigum Kids ELC believe that the early childhood years are the most fundamental in a child’s development and that children learn most through experiences and interactions that occur during that time.
Taigum Kids ELC provides a special place for children away from home that fosters a sense of belonging and security, where children are cared for in a safe, healthy and comfortable environment that meets their needs and those of their families. Educators aim to provide beautiful learning environments with open-ended resources that create endless learning possibilities.
Early Years Learning Framework
The curriculum is connected to each child’s everyday lives and interests. Taigum Kids ELC believe that the children learn best through play based activities. In conjunction with the Early Years Learning Framework, the program encourages children to become involved by providing interest-based activities, which enables them to develop their capabilities and at the same time build on needs and challenge their strengths. Through this curriculum children develop self-confidence, independence and socialisation.
The local community
Taigum Kids ELC recognise and respect the people, culture and languages that attend their service. They believe that their unique perspectives should be embedded into the practice of educators so the language and culture is accessible to all children. Kids ELC create respectful, supportive and professional relationships amongst educators and families which are upheld through open, friendly communication. Families are viewed as partners, collaborators and advocates for their children and are recognised as their child’s first teacher. Families are encouraged to be involved in every aspect of the curriculum, encouraging a connection to each child’s life.
At Taigum Kids ELC they believe in the importance of community involvement. They believe it provides the children with the opportunity to work within a local context, and all children should be exposed to as much information about their community as possible. For this reason, they incorporate “The community” into the children’s everyday lives.
