C&K Coorparoo Community Kindergarten is the proud recipient of C&K’s ‘Innovation in Inclusive Practices’ award. The service also received C&K’s overall award for ‘Excellence in Early Childhood Education and Care.’ The Department of Education & Training rated the service as “Exceeding National Quality Standard” in 2015.
The Setting
C&K Coorparoo Community Kindergarten is set in a natural tropical environment, providing unique outdoor learning areas that have been carefully developed over 50 years.
Kindy Program at Coorparoo Community Kindergarten
Coorparoo Community Kindy is a 2 unit Kindergarten which accommodates 4 classes of 22 children each. The program currently operates on a 5-day-fortnight and follows school hours and school terms.
Two attendance schedules are available: A group classes attend Mondays, Tuesdays, and alternating Wednesdays; and B group classes attending alternating Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
The service is currently surveying families and investigating the demand for the introduction of an Extended Hours option for 2017.
Children are required to bring their kindy bags containing morning tea, lunch, water bottle, sun safe hat, and a spare set of clothes. A refrigerator is provided for keeping food cold. Sunscreen and insect repellent provided but application is parent responsibility.
C&K Educational Program
C&K’s education program, Building Waterfalls, is Australia’s first collaborative birth to school aged curriculum framework and is universally acclaimed as inspiring and thought provoking, taking early childhood education to a new level.
The education program is enhanced with the inclusion of incursions and excursions such as themed puppet shows, traditional aboriginal performances and local community walks. C&K Coorparoo Community Kindergarten also engages children with a rotation of displays on loan from the Queensland Museum.
