Avenues Montessori Children’s House opened in 2015, and provides supportive educational care for children aged 12 months to 6 years of age. Operating from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, 52 weeks of the year, the Children’s House has been designed to create stimulating environments that are geared towards the child, which enables them to proceed at their own pace in a non- competitive environment: to explore; experiment; and develop their love of learning.
Avenues Montessori Children’s House recently added on 4 new classrooms due to their extensive waitlist, to enable them to offer care to 150 children per day. The physical building in Bowen Hills has a history and association with the provision of educational care, as it once belonged to the Endeavour Foundation. Staff of the centre are inspired by and follow the work and philosophy of Maria Montessori and offer an authentic Montessori curriculum and program.
Whole child development
The Montessori Method of teaching aims for the fullest possible development of the whole child, ultimately preparing him/her for life’s many rich experiences. As community forms the bases of the programs at Avenues Montessori Children’s House, they look at all aspects that would support the functioning of a holistic and sustainable community. Their strategies for care of the environment include, but are not limited to: cloth nappies, paperless with only the use of clothes to wipe hands, tables etc, the offer of a chemical free environment, and an unwavering support to our families, children’s and staff well-being on their journey through parenthood, learning journey and professional development.

Their community commitment and involvement, as well as their dedication to providing exceptional early childhood programs set in custom made facilities that draw upon the natural concepts of beauty, harmony, simplicity and order, set them apart from other local childcare centres.
Curriculum
The Avenues’ curriculum synthesizes classic Montessori philosophy and methodology with the latest in child development research, the Early Years Framework, the Queensland Kindergarten Guidelines, and the National Quality Framework, in which they have been rated ‘Exceeding’ in all Standards and Quality Areas. Children at the centre follow the morning work cycle, which is an uninterrupted period where children have the freedom to choose activities/lessons fulfilling their developmental needs. Morning teas are progressive, allowing children to regulate their personal needs, with the program following the community of children and their needs for the day. Children have the option to work indoors or in the extended classrooms outside.
Inclusions
Avenues Montessori Children’s House have a 5-star rated Licensed Kitchen, which provides nutritious meals for the children throughout each day. Upon enrolment, the centre provides a bag for each child to bring every day they attend, a set of sheets, and a hat. They also ask all children to wear clothes that are brand and slogan free. This is to remove commercialism from their service and it allows each child to be seen for who they are, not what they are wearing. This policy also allows children to develop strong skills in conflict resolution and emotional resilience as their interactions are based firmly in reality.
Avenues Montessori Children’s House is located at 45 Folkestone Street, Bowen Hills.
