Things to think about before getting your skates on

Safety: Always wear proper safety gear, such as a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads, to protect yourself and your kids from injury.

Respect: Follow the rules of the park and be respectful of other park users. If you are a beginner or you have young kids, avoid skating when the park is crowded and wait your turn to use features.

Condition: Check the condition of the park and the equipment before using it. If equipment seems broken or unsafe, do not use it. You can also check park conditions on the Logan City Council website

Weather: Be mindful of the weather and the surface of the skatepark. Skateparks can become slippery in wet conditions and too hot to use during the summer, be aware of the weather before heading out

If you like the idea of a rainy day activity that includes nature, wildlife and lessons in conservation for the kids, then a visit to the Daisy Hill Koala Conservation Centre will be perfect for you. Nestled within the tranquil grounds of the Daisy Hill Conservation Park, the centre is home to several local koalas found injured or unwell.

If you are there in the early afternoon, you can join a free tour where friendly staff will introduce you to the cuddly residents. You can easily spend an hour or two out of the rain at the interactive indoor information centre, where the kids will love learning more about the plight of koalas and discovering ways to help with their conservation.

Get inspired at IKEA

The Swedish design megastore in Logan is the perfect rainy day escape for families looking to entertain themselves for a few hours (or even more!). Be inspired by the large furniture display room areas, dine in at their cheap and popular cafe or, for the smallest kids, visit the Smaland Children’s corner. Located at the entrance of store, this space provides supervised play for children for up to one hour so you can browse while they can play. Just try not to leave with too many new DIY projects!

Try roller skating

Whether they are seasoned pros (like their mum and dad), or just learning to roller skate for the first time, Skate Paradise in Hillcrest, Logan provides the perfect rainy day escape for the whole family. Join in on one of the general skate sessions, or try one of their popular night-time dance spots!

Visit Mayes Cottage and Museum

Immerse the whole family in the history of Logan with a visit to the delightful Mayes Cottage. A reminder of Queensland’s pioneering age, the cottage was built in 1887 and has had very few changes made since. Although on a rainy day a picnic on the grounds after a walk through the cottage may not be an option, there are plenty of other ways to spend your time here. Join a free Cottage House Museum tour and chat on the veranda with the volunteer guides.

Get active at Area 51

Area 51 Brisbane foam pits and trampolines.

On days when the rain seems endless and you are looking for an activity in Logan to help your active kids expel some pent-up energy, why not head to Area 51! An absolute wonder world of indoor play adventure for kids, the centre is the largest in Australia and is based in Logan.

Area 51 caters for the whole family – adults, teenagers, toddlers and even infants, with classes and activities for all ages. Located entirely indoors, air-conditioned, and with multiple play areas like trampolining, karting, foam pits, ninja courses and even a cafe where you can enjoy a hot drink, it won’t be hard to forget the rain outside when you are so busy! What we love about Area 51 is that they cater for all ages, so even if you have a toddler and a teenager, you can easily enjoy a whole day here together.

Head to the shops

Grand Plaza in Browns Plains and the Hyperdome in Loganholme are two of the largest shopping centres in the Logan area. Both one-stop destinations for rainy day activities, stay dry and entertained under the one large roof. Head to the cinemas, grab a bite to eat, visit the indoor play areas, or stock up on some arts and crafts for indoor activities at home.

Play tenpin bowling at Zone Bowling

Tenpin bowling at Loganholme! A sure-fire winner when it comes to activities to do with your family on a rainy day, there is something about popping on those vintage shoes, ordering a plate of wedges and settling in for game (or ten) as you aim to secure that allusive strike. Located in the heart of Logan in the Hyperdome, Zone Bowling not only gifts you 20 lanes to choose from, but also arcade games, laser tag and a tasty food and drinks menu.

Introduce the kids to Chung Tian Temple

chung tian temple logan

If you want to inject a bit of culture into your family day out, visiting the Chung Tian Temple is a wonderfully zen rainy day option. Open every Tuesday through Sunday; the Logan-based Chan Buddhist temple forms part of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist monastic order. Not only does it provide a wonderful way for children to learn more about different cultures and beliefs, there is also a tea room, art gallery, museum and gardens to explore here with your family.

Try a junior boxing lesson

For a rainy day activity in Logan that is slightly different, why not try out one of the junior boxing lessons hosted by the Beenleigh PCYC? Running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon (including school holidays), kids can have a little fun while getting fit and learning some skills at the same time. Aimed at children 12 years and younger, you can book into an afternoon session on a day when the weather outside is less inviting.

Catch a movie at a Logan cinema

Salty popcorn, frozen Cokes, the latest blockbuster movie and a warm, cozy cinema. These things combined add up to one of the most popular rainy day activities for families. In Logan, Grand Plaza and the Hyperdome have Event Movie Cinemas, with multiple sessions and movies available daily, meaning you are bound to find something the whole family can enjoy.

An easy winner on a rainy day, nothing is more welcoming than settling in front of the big screen for a few hours. If you plan on visiting the movies often, we recommend signing up for Event Cinema’s Cinebuzz program and taking advantage of cheaper sessions, advanced screenings and discount offerings.

Get drenched at a Logan City water park

flagstone adventure park

Flagstone Adventure Park

You are going to get wet anyway, right? So where is the harm in putting on your swimmers, getting out, and making the most of that nature-gifted wet-weather play? Logan has many seriously impressive water parks, including Logan Gardens Water Park, Flagstone Adventure Park and Darlington Parklands. All with a range of different water activities the kids will love, we think the best way to make the most of a rainy day in Logan is to get outside and literally get in it!

Head to an indoor swimming pool

Sticking with the water theme, but for the parents wanting to stay dry while they supervise the kids getting wet, why not head to one of Logan’s indoor swimming pools? Heated so they are warm even in the cooler months, pools such as the Logan North Aquatic and the Logan West Aquatic Centre offer indoor and outdoor swimming opportunities for kids.

Watch a show at the Logan Entertainment Centre

Heighten their senses and watch as your family delight in the cultural experiences offered at the Logan Entertainment Centre. With live performances of dance, drama, music and comedy offered all year round, chances are on the next dreary rainy day outside, a world of colour and wonder is happening on stage at the centre. With free workshops and exhibitions also available to families, it is worth checking out the ‘Kids and Families‘ page on their website to see what may be suitable before heading in.

Logan Art Gallery

Another free cultural experience that your whole family can enjoy on a rainy day is a visit to the Logan Art Gallery. Celebrating the diverse work of visual artists, craftworkers and designers, the gallery also has a wonderful Young People’s Gallery. Dedicated to showcasing exhibitions for or by young people, the space also offers fun, interactive activities designed to trigger the imagination and creativity of your kids.

Visit a play centre

Rainbow City Children's Playcentre

Rainbow City in Underwood

With their bright colours, soft play spaces, warm surrounds and indoor playgrounds, play centres are a firm favourite for parents to visit on a rainy day in Logan and it is not hard to see why. Popular venues such as Chipmunks Playland at the Hyperdome and Rainbow City in Underwood will provide your children hours of fun in a safe environment, while offering you inviting food and drink options and a place to sit and relax while you keep a watchful eye over them.

Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct

One final spot that will open your family up to a wealth of cultural and historical fanfare is a visit to the Kingston Buttery Factory Cultural Precinct. It is home to the famous Kingston Butter Factory, where local performances have come to life for years, and where you will find the Living Museum of Logan. A visit to this contemporary social history museum will introduce the kids to stories about people who have helped form what is the City of Logan today.

Logan City Historical Museum

What was the City of Logan like nearly 200 years ago? You can discover the answer to this at the Logan City Historical Museum. Established over 30 years ago, the museum is a fabulous way to while away a rainy day with the kids as they uncover the story of the region’s European settlement and the development of the City of Logan from 1826 to the present day. Free for kids and only $2 for adults, your whole family will enjoy marvelling at the olden day artefacts and relics from the past.

Eat out at a kid-friendly cafe

On a cold, wet and rainy day in Logan, what is the quickest way to satisfy little people and put a smile on the faces of everyone in the family? A trip to your favourite local cafe for a warm meal and hot drink!

The City of Logan is home to many kid-friendly cafes, with several offering ad-hoc entertainment options for the kids to go along with their tempting dishes. With kids’ deals, colouring activity sets, playgrounds and impressively inviting play spaces, your biggest decision will be deciding where to go! Never fear, though; we have you covered! Discover all the local options on our website on the Kid Friendly Cafes and Restaurants in Logan page.

Beenleigh Historical Village

Beenleigh Historical Village

When the rain next beats down on the window of your modern abode, why not step back in time and take the kids to visit the Beenleigh Historical Village? Designed to resemble a village of years gone by, the village features buildings, experiences and demonstrations that will have you thinking you have somehow entered a time machine. Take the kids into the blacksmith, old post office, 1800s school room and printing presses. Arrange a tour, or go at your own pace – just make sure you allow time to take in the art gallery and museum displays too.

Go for a train or bus ride

Kids love public transport, and catching a train or bus around Logan and its surrounding areas is a brilliant way to spend a rainy day with your kids. Pack a backpack with a few light snacks and a drink, jump on board your local ride, and watch their sense of adventure unfold. On school holidays, kids can ride for free, so take advantage of this and head from Logan into town or down the coast, or even stay local and visit the many attractions nearby.
