Parental Involvement

The club can also provide an avenue for parental involvement. Parents may volunteer, support events, and become part of the larger netball community.

Having been founded in 1975, the Aspley Devils Netball Club has provided a holistic experience for players of all abilities for decades, combining skills development, physical activity, social connections, and personal growth.

This Brisbane North family club is more than just a sports team; Aspley Devils Netball Club is a supportive community that contributes to the overall well-being of its members.

The Aspley Devils Story

Aspley Devils Netball Club high five.

It all started in 1975 when 3 avid netballers – Amy, Gwen and Jenny – wanted a club to join that was close to their home suburb of Aspley. Unable to find one, they formed one and in its first year the Aspley Devils Netball Club fielded 1 senior team and 1 junior team!

In the years following the club grew and grew and they soon realised they needed a home training ground.

The netball club approached Craigslea State High School with a proposition of providing lighting for the school’s existing netball courts, funded in part by many lamingtons, bake sales and Wednesday night bingo sessions at the local football club!

A fantastic deal was struck whereby the netball club would pay for the installation of the lights and the school would allow the club to train there.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing though! Amy recalls the local council, having concerns with potential noise from the training at Craigslea, and requested the residents surrounding the school be approached and approve of the light installations and potential noisy training.

So Amy, Gwen and others from the netball club went door-knocking through the neighbourhood, armed with whistles to show the residents that the noise would be minimal!

With the neighbourhood on board, the lights were installed and Aspley Devils Netball Club has retained a great relationship with the school ever since.

Throughout the 70’s and 80’s the Aspley Devils Netball Club were based at Bradbury Park, however they moved to the Downey Park Netball Association in the 90’s. This move has proven extremely beneficial as Downey Park currently has over 3000 teams playing, providing one of the largest competitions in Queensland, and a great pathway for aspiring representative players.

From its original two teams, Aspley Devils Netball Club now has teams in every age division, from 7 year-olds all the way up to Opens (including some 60+ year-olds).

They have mothers and daughters playing; fathers, mothers and sisters coaching and managing teams; and fathers, sons, mothers and daughters umpiring for the club.

More than just a netball club, Aspley Devils Netball truly is a proud family club.

Testimonials

Aspley Devils Netball Club hands in the air.

Last Saturday my daughter in team #11 was squaring off to a vastly taller and better opposition. Word obviously got around the Devils about the game, and the Devils turned up in droves. The cheering and support were something, as a club, that we should be very thankful and proud of. I was the scorer and the difference between the supporters for the teams was Enya vs AC/DC . Thank you Devil family. Gave us a great memory during a huge defeat. Netball was the big winner on the day!! Amazing!

Joining Aspley Devils Netball was a game-changer for me! The new friends, awesome coaching, and incredible club spirit have made my experience here unforgettable. I’m proud to be part of this amazing netball family!

Such fun being a part of this beautiful club!

Great support around the games!! Love this club!

Football Australia’s MiniRoos https://brisbanekids.com.au/family/football-australias-miniroos/ Thu, 01 Apr 2021 02:48:56 +0000 https://www.brisbanekids.com.au/?post_type=local_business&p=273130 Winter is coming and that means the football season is upon us.

No matter where you live in Brisbane, a local football club will have a MiniRoos program nearby.

What is MiniRoos?

MiniRoos is a nation-wide initiative designed for budding footballers of all abilities. The program is available in two forms:

MiniRoos Kick-Off

Kick-Off is an introduction to football for boys and girls aged 4-9 –

  • A fun, safe introductory program designed for new players aged  between 4 and 11.
  • Weekly 45 minute sessions that build skills through games and simple drills delivered in an engaging and inclusive environment.
  • Every player gets plenty of time on the ball and the prime aim of each session is for children to build fundamental motor skills.
  • Each child also receives a MiniRoos Participant Pack when they register – which includes a bag, ball, sticker sheet and an activity book.

MiniRoos Club Football

Club Football is a team-based version of football played during the winter season for boys and girls aged 5 – 11. The smaller fields, modified rules and fewer players mean a more enjoyable game with more opportunities to touch the ball and more opportunities to score goals, once again increasing the likelihood of an overall positive experience.

The parent and kid-friendly program was developed by Football Australia and uses short, game-based sessions to introduce football to newcomers in an inclusive way.

A relaxed environment for kids

Clubs provide coaching sessions and set up matches in a relaxed environment. The smaller fields, modified rules and fewer players mean:

  • More touches on the ball!
  • More goals!
  • More fun!

Development progression

As your child progresses through the various age groups, they will be introduced to playing environments that most suit their stage of development and prepare them for the transition to 11v11
football when the time comes.

Children enrolled in MiniRoos football learn new skills, get active and make life-long friends. And who knows – it may be your child’s first step towards the Matildas or the Socceroos!

Who is Football Australia?

Football Australia is the governing body of football in Australia and is a member of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the international governing body for football.

FIFA is made up of the Football Australia and 210 other national associations, and also recognises six confederations loosely grouped along continental lines. Each national association is also a member of a confederation. Football Australia has been a member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) since joining the body on January 1, 2006.

Football Australia was established in 2004 and is a member-based organisation loosely based on Australia’s federated system of government.

Football Australia’s membership is comprised of:

  • Capital Football
  • Football Northern Territory
  • Football South Australia
  • Football Tasmania
  • Football Victoria
  • Football New South Wales
  • Football Queensland
  • Football West
  • Northern New South Wales Football

Each of these governing bodies has a commitment to comply with the Football Australia constitution, applicable statutes, by-laws and regulations, and are responsible for the game within their respective geographic region.

Laserzone League Laser Tag for Kids, Teens and Adults in Brisbane https://brisbanekids.com.au/family/laserzone-league-laser-tag-teens-adults-brisbane/ Tue, 15 Aug 2017 04:10:47 +0000 https://brisbanekids.com.au/?post_type=local_business&p=194801 Are you looking for a fun way to get your teen involved in organised sport?

Or perhaps you have a youngling who dreams of being a world class Laser Tag ninja?

Then you should consider heading to Laserzone for a FREE Laser Tag League try out! Laser Sporting is surprisingly athletic and a huge amount of fun. The difference between Laser League and regular Laser Tag is that you get to experience Laser Tag as part of an organised team. League develops great reflexes, fitness and communication skills throughout the 10 week season.

Laser League for kids, teens and adults

Laser League for teens

Laserzone has Leagues for all ages and stages. Their Junior League (ages 8-14 years) runs every Wednesday from 4pm-6pm and is the perfect way for kids to stay fit and learn important social and leadership skills. They also run a Homeschool League every Wednesday from 10am-12pm for all school aged kids who are homeschooled. Laserzone’s teens and adults Laser League caters for beginner to advanced skills for ages 13 to adult, and runs every Tuesday from 6pm-9pm. The learning curve is steep, but trained League facilitators give you all the training you need, and within just a few weeks you will be up to speed on how it all works.

All experience levels

Laser League for teens

New players are well supported and can join as an individual or as a group. Laserzone utilises a unique handicapping system that ensures teams are balanced based upon the experience levels of the players on the team. This ensures you will be competitive from the beginning and ensures that teams are always on the lookout for new players to train up!

Laser League games in Brisbane

Laser League for teens

League games vary slightly to the traditional public game. In a typical Laser League game there are 3 teams of 5 players (Red, Blue and Green). Each team has a “home base” to protect and can destroy the opposition teams bases to earn a “2000” point bonus. Players score by tagging opposition players and destroying the base stations. Each player can only destroy the opposition base once each during the game, so typically team captains will allocate some players to protecting home base, and have some players go in to “attack” on the opposition teams bases. Once a player has destroyed both the opposition teams bases, the team captain will swap them in to defence and have a defender go out in to attack. Laser League is an awesome blend of athleticism and tactics. It’s an easy game to learn and a very difficult game to master!

Training times

Laser League for teens

Each League session is made up of some complimentary training games to accelerate your learning, 3 League games (one game in each colour) and a social game at the end. Laserzone Laser League plays every Tuesday from 6-9pm during school term (training at 5pm). For full details on pricing and to watch their League promotional video, head to their website.

Competitive Laser Tag in Australia

Laser League for teens

Australia has the largest competitive Laser Tag scene in the world, and Laserzone Brisbane has a long history of success regularly featuring amongst Australasia’s best teams. Laserzone’s experienced players love to coach new comers, and will welcome you along with open arms. Laserzone looks forward to seeing at League soon.
