Brisbane and surrounding suburbs are very fortunate to have wonderful weather and plenty of awesome playgrounds and parks to enjoy year round. If you’ve got a Brisbane Kid with energy to burn, check out some of the wonderful playgrounds we have in our beautiful city.
To help you out we have attended and reviewed hundreds of playgrounds and gathered them together in one place. Our kids have tried and tested them and the adults have given them a tick of approval, so they are ready and waiting for you to visit.
Remember we don’t aim to list every playground in Brisbane – just the best Brisbane parks and playgrounds we think you will enjoy.
Fun Brisbane Playgrounds are a Must
In each review we like to start with an overview of the playground and a description of all the things you’ll find there. We talk about the play equipment, seating, toilet facilities, BBQs, and any other interesting features unique to the playground.
We love finding parks which suit all age groups so your whole family can have fun together. We try to make sure every single playground is on our site because you would love to visit it as much as we would. It might be the size of the playground or proximity to water or another feature that may not be immediately apparent.
Kids being able to use their imagination
A great playground should give your child’s mind a chance to wander. Many of the playgrounds in Brisbane are designed around a central theme and enable your child to role-play. They’ll have a chance to pretend they’re a swash-buckling pirate, a princess in a tower, or even a shopkeeper. They’re only limited by their imagination.
Nature play is increasingly popular too, and is a great way for kids to appreciate and experience their natural environment while playing and having fun.
Accessibility Considered
We believe all kids have the right to play and explore together. This is why we consider each park for its accessibility. Sometimes parks will have specialised all-ability play equipment like Liberty swings, and, for others we’ll let you know how easy it is to get around or if there is accessible toilets and parking.
Playground Features at a Glance
We always provide a quick list you can refer to noting the important features of each playground. This will help make choosing your next family adventure a breeze. We’ll let you know about fencing, toilets, amenities, specific play equipment, shade, picnic facilities, and much more.
Things to Consider when Choosing Playgrounds to Visit
Heading out and about with kids requires a little planning and forward thinking. It’s always handy to consider the following when organising your day out:
Fencing
Some of kids just love to run. And when you have a few kids with you – a fenced playground can help you stay stress-free and keep everyone in the one place. Will will always make special mention if a playground is fully fenced.
Toilets/Amenities
We know many parents enjoy Brisbane parks with kids who are recently toilet-trained. It often means time won’t wait when they’re ready to go. Amenity blocks at playgrounds make this easier and don’t interrupt play time, it is even better when they are accessible and include change tables.
Shade
In Brisbane, the sun can pack a punch all year round. Consider the time of day and shade facilities at your chosen park to make sure your day doesn’t end on a sore note. Whenever you venture outside with your kids, don’t forget adequate sun protection, a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.
BBQs and Picnic Facilities
Spending many hours at great playgrounds is a wonderful way to get outside and have fun with your family. Being able to have a picnic, fire up the BBQ or hold a big gathering or party at a park is a popular way to spend the holidays or weekends. For this reason it is important to know whether you can cook and if there’ll be enough seating for you and your guests. We also like to mention if there is drinking water available, rubbish bins or specific areas which can be booked (usually via the local council).
Mozzies!
Mosquitoes love Brisbane as much as we do. Consider bringing some insect repellent if you’re heading to a park in the late afternoon.
