  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Things to do with Kids in Amity Point

Last updated: February 16, 2022
dolphins on stradbroke island

While away the weekend at North Stradbroke Island’s hidden gem: Amity Point. This tiny fishing village is only 90 minutes from Brisbane but feels a world away. It’s the perfect place to turn off the devices and breathe in the salty ocean air.  Here’s our list of the top things to do with kids in Amity Point.

Spend the Day at a Secret Beach

Amity-Point-Secret-Beach

The beach off Ballow Road, Amity Point is so secluded it’s not on most maps. Follow the flat, unpaved road to the golden sand beach and you’ll be rewarded with crystal blue waters. You’d be forgiven for thinking you’re on an overseas holiday. This beach has a steep drop off so is best for splashing in the shallows and making sandcastles. This is not a parolled beach.

Top tip: If you have small children the enclosed swimming area next to the Amity Point jetty is the perfect place to cool down. There’s also a small park right off the beach.

Stradbroke’s Wild Dolphins

Check out the Pod of Dolphins filmed by ABC Brisbane! The jetty around Amity Point is known for wild dolphin sightings. Go around sunset for the best chance of spotting these majestic creatures. Incredibly, Stradbroke Island has the largest reported population of bottlenose dolphins in the smallest area in the world.

Top tip: Dolphins hold special significance to the local Quandamooka people. Find out more about the rich Indigenous heritage and their special relationship with dolphins here.

Where to have Coffee at Amity Point

Bo-Beans-Amity-Point-Coffee

Meander down Amity Point’s quiet streets to Bo Beans Coffee. Just because you’re on island time doesn’t mean you have miss out on a city style coffee. Grab an expertly made latte with freshly roasted Moreton Bay Coffee Co beans. The kids are covered too with generously sized babyccinos and iced chocolates.

Top tip: Rufus King Seafoods sells seafood fresh from the boat and is conveniently located right behind Bo Beans Coffee. We highly recommend the Straddie prawns.

Grab a Gelato on Home Beach

Gelati-Home-Beach

Take a short drive over to Home Beach where there’s a natural shallow lagoon just before the ocean. Once you’re set up listen out for the Hey! Gelati Man’s truck rolling down the beach. Nothing says summer holidays quite like a gelato straight on the sand.

Top tip: This is a dog friendly beach and the family dog is welcome to run around at Home Beach too. Just make sure they don’t steal your ice cream!

Watch the Sunset over Amity Point

As your holiday comes to a close don’t miss the opportunity to see the sunset over the East Coast of Australia. Grab a grassy spot at Amity Point Picnic Park and let the kids run around as the sun slips behind the horizon.

Top tip: Keep an eye out for wild koalas in the gumtrees at picnic park. Koala joeys are born around March each year and are often seen throughout Amity Point.
